Designers share decorating secrets that only professionals knew ... until now

Some people have a natural eye for design, but if you're the kind of person who doesn't do anything without consulting the Pinterest board (or 10!) before making a big change, we've got you covered. Even those of us who live and breathe interior design need a little inspiration and guidance. In an ideal world, we would have interior designers on speed dial to tell us about everything from deciding where and how to hang new pictures on the wall to creating layouts for small spaces. But if that's still not on your budget, we have the next best thing: the best tips and tricks from some of the world's most talented designers wall panels.

Cut the finished tiles for a customized look

We usually cut the available standard size material into smaller sizes of the same tile,” says Jessica Geller of Todeo Geller. The design duo used this budget-friendly method to create this custom tile design in this bathroom.

Wallpapers on your device

Do you have an ugly device or just want to change something? Use peel-and-stick wallpaper like designer Janie Molster did with this kitchen fridge and freezer.

Play with templates

You can mix colors and patterns that go beyond borders but still be stylish and authentic. Take it easy from designer Anthony Gianakakos who made it in his own bedroom. "My strength is the combination of colors and patterns," she says.

Fake window with mirror

In a windowless basement, Camilla Pavone of Effortless Style Interiors came up with the idea of combining two mirrors into one window. This brightens the room and makes it appear larger.

Give stainless steel a matte finish

We love how this surface interacts with light; Soft, sophisticated and inviting,” says Suzanne Stephan of her kitchen's matte stainless steel finish, which she created with Scotch-Brite. Learn more about the process here.

Find a place to use homemade porcelain

I wanted to create a space where you can invite friends over for coffee or tea... and actually use the porcelain you collect," says Marie Flanigan of the tea room she designed. It's proof that any collection can be a starting point for a space.

Hide radiator with cabinet

Radiators can easily interfere with your design vision. Make it a part of the room by building a wardrobe above it, as Leanne Ford Interiors does here, to reclaim hallway space and turn it into a lovely little reading nook.

Create a comfortable relaxation space

Don't underestimate the importance of private shelters. "I want to feel like I'm wrapped in a warm blanket," says Melissa Rufti of the Southern Library.

Use wallpaper with varnish effect

"Once someone paints it, it's much easier to repair than real paint!" - Corey Damon Jenkins

Create your own art

Buy some frosted frames and hang your own abstract art sketches. Passepartouts will look expensive and you will have a personal touch on the walls for guests to admire.” – Aeneas White
