Rapid injection molding (RIM) is a manufacturing technique that uses plasticized material injected under high pressure into a closed mold cavity at temperatures above its glass transition temperature. RIM is a rapid prototyping method that can produce parts in complex shapes and various of sizes.
It is an additive manufacturing technology that creates three-dimensional objects using a computer model. These models are created using a CAD software program and then sliced into layers. Each layer is designed to create a specific shape. Once the layers have been created, they are sent to the machine where the plasticized material is injected into the mold. As the material cools, it hardens and takes the shape of the mold. After the part has cooled, it is removed from the mold and trimmed down to size.
The benefits of RIM process are many. First, RIM is cost effective. Because the molds are reusable, they do not have to be replaced after each use. Also, RIM does not require any post processing steps, which means less time and money spent on finishing products. Another benefit of RIM is its speed. A product can be produced in just a few hours.
There are some drawbacks to RIM process. One drawback is the lack of flexibility. When compared to traditional methods of production, RIM cannot produce complex shapes. Also, RIM requires specialized equipment, which increases costs.
Choose RPWORLD for injection molding service. We offer rapid tooling (prototype tooling), trial tooling (bridgetooling), hardened tooling, low volume production, high-volume production (mass production) and on-demand production. For more information visit our website at https://www.rpworld.com/
