Temporary Skill Shortage Visa – How to Apply Successfully

Types of Streams for TSS Visas

You will be surprised to learn that TSS visas are further divided into streams and each stream is different from the other at some points.

Short-Term Streams

The visa allows employers of Australia to hire overseas workers for up to 2 years or 4 years. There is no age bar for recruiting workers. For this stream, if you are applying while living in Australia, you must have a Substantive Visa or a Bridging Visa A, B, or C. The applicant for the visa can only work for the nominated company and for the nominated job position. Work experience is necessary. The visa is granted to those overseas skilled workers who have minimum 2 years of work experience in the relevant field. They go for a mandatory skill assessment as a part of the visa process. The intention of staying in Australia must be clear through a genuine temporary entrant or GTE. The stream makes applicants eligible for a permanent residence visa.

Medium-Term Stream

Under this stream, employers have permission to hire skilled workers abroad to meet their shortages. The tenure of the stream is up to 4 years. More than 70% of the visa approval cases solve within 5 months. The stream is for them whose occupation is one either the medium and long-term strategic skills list or the Regional Occupation List or ROL.

Labour Agreement Stream

This is another stream under TSS visas where skilled workers are nominated by those employers who have a Labour Agreement. The agreement is signed between the Australian government and employers. The visa holder can stay for up to 4 years as per the term in the labour agreement. Over 70% of the application gets an approval within 3 months.

Basic Eligibility

The basic eligibility of the visa includes-

• Nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor
• The applicant must have the right skills and work experience
• The applicant meets the relevant English language requirements
