RPO-A Sheml is a rocket-propelled thermobaric weapon used by Russian forces during World War II. It consists of a 90mm rocket launched from a lightweight launch tube. Once the warhead was released, it mixed with oxygen in the surrounding air to cause a massive explosion. This explosive effect lasted for several seconds, causing severe damage to nearby objects. Operational details of the battle are sparse, but there are a few things we do know. The Chechens, for example, fought in defenseless areas, relying on mobile combat groups to maintain their position. This was more effective than relying on strong points, and the Russians attacked along specific axes of advance, disregarding flanks. Chechen mobile groups controlled the initiative of battle, even while on the defensive.
