Maintenance Of Go-Kart: All You Need To Know

So you have decided to start go-karting, good, but you are overwhelmed by the number of maintenance operations you have to make in order to maintain your go-kart? Don’t you worry, we got you covered.

Karting is fun but it does require some maintenance. It can seem hard at first and overwhelming but once you are used to it, the operations can be done quickly. So don’t worry and just start, everything will fall into place.

Maintenance when the season is over

Once your season is over, you need to do a series of operations/checks in your garage:

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and adjust if you think it is necessary

Check your hardware. Check all the nuts, bolts, washers, screws, and tighten if necessary or replace.

Check your battery and the level of charge. A battery that stays empty for a long period of time can deteriorate rapidly. Batteries are made to have at least some charge in them. Make sure you check the charge level and charge it if needed.

Change filters for the fuel system. You can do it yourself or in your kart shop. As a general rule, if you have trouble doing an operation you can always ask for help in your local kart store.

Drain the fuel tank and carburetor by allowing the engine to run out of fuel. The tank must be empty.

Chain and sprocket maintenance. Generally, you will do this during the season with the clutch. You need to clean and lube the chain. You can also buy a new chain if you have money to blow.

Put your go-kart on a stand and check wheel alignment. Check that the axles of the go-kart tires are not bent. Check that the steering rod of the go-kart wheels and tires works properly.

Check the yolks. The yolks are C shape that the stub axles are bolted into. Check their shape. They are usually bent after a crash so if you have been in an accident during the season you need to check it.

Lube everywhere where it is needed.

Go-kart is very fun but comes with a lot of work!
