Deep Vein Thrombosis: Its Symptoms And Treatments

Deep vein thrombosis is a condition in which blood gets clot usually in the legs, losing and lodging in the lungs. The common deep vein thrombosis symptoms involve leg pain, swelling, or sometimes no symptoms.

What Are the Warning Signs of Deep Vein Thrombosis?

Initially, deep vein thrombosis shows no symptoms, making it more severe. As a result, deep vein thrombosis symptoms occur in only half of the people suffering from it, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC).

The possible symptoms of deep vein thrombosis include the following:-

Swelling in one side of your foot, ankle, or leg.
Cramping pain in your affected leg that often begins in your calf
Severe, uncertain pain in your foot and ankle
Warmth in the affected areas of the skin
The skin of the affected area might turn pale, reddish, or bluish in colour

Usually, people with upper extremity DVT or blood clots in the arm may not experience DVT symptoms. This is because the symptoms do not appear until they have gone through emergency treatment for pulmonary embolism. But in case they do, they will show signs as:-

Pain in neck
Shoulder pain
Swelling in the arm or hand
Blue-tinted skin colour
Pain moving from the arm to the forearm
Weakness in the hand

Blocking off veins is a matter of concern, and when the clot reaches the lungs from the legs or arms, it is called pulmonary embolism. In this, the artery in the lungs gets blocked, and that can be a life-threatening condition.

Deep vein thrombosis affects the circulation of blood and consequently the heart’s function. Some men with DVT face erection difficulty. As the DVT symptoms don’t occur initially, men with DVT start to face symptoms that occur when affected by abnormal blood flow.

As DVT affects the blood flow throughout the body, it may also affect the functioning of other body parts, such as running/walking mechanism, blood pressure, erection mechanism, etc.

Men sometimes face ED symptoms and feel awkward. Consequently, they try self-medicating through ED pills (Cenforce 100) without being diagnosed with DVT.

Medications like Viagra, Cenforce 100are commonly known for treating problems with an erection and may affect the heart’s function. Therefore, we recommend every DVT patient, always consult a doctor before taking any medicine, including Cenforce 100.

What Is the Immediate Treatment for DVT?

Following treatment options are available for DVT patients. Depending on your severity and prevailing condition, the doctor may suggest one of these:-

Medication: Your doctor will prescribe medications, such as Heparin, Warfarin(Coumadin), enoxaparin(Lovenox), or Fondaparinux(Arixtra), that will help the blood to become thin, causing it to flow easily through the clot in the vessel.

In some cases, it becomes necessary to clear the blockage. Thus, the doctor may prescribe thrombolytic drugs, especially for people with upper extremity DVT. This drug breaks and dissolves the clotted blood making the flow clear.

NOTE: DVT may lead to other complications unknowingly, such as pulmonary embolism (PE), postphlebitic syndrome, and sometimes erectile dysfunction. In order to treat such complications, do not try to self medicate.

Compression stockings: In case of a high risk of developing deep vein thrombosis, the doctor may suggest you wear compression stockings either just below the knees or just above it. People with severe DVT have to wear this every day.

Filters: In order to prevent the clot from reaching the lungs, a filter is inserted into the vena cava. This happens when the patient is unable to take the medicines(blood thinners). However, such treatment is not a permanent solution, after some point in time, the filter can turn into a clot.

DVT exercise: The longer you sit the chance of clotting the blood increases. In case you are seated for an extended period of time, there are exercises that you can perform while sitting. This is performed to increase the flow of blood through your legs.

Some exercises help you to reduce the risk of developing vein thrombosis, such as:-

Knee pulls: Fold your knees and raise them towards your chest. Hold it with your arms for a few seconds. Repeat these stretches several times.

Foot pumps: Stand on your feet and raise your entire body weight on your claw by raising your feet as well for a few seconds. Then let your feet relax back to your normal standing position. Repeat this exercise several times a day.

Ankle circles: Lift both feet from the floor and try to make a circle with toes in one direction, do this for a few seconds. Now, it’s the turn for the other side, do the same with the other leg and toe.

Surgery: In some very severe cases, the doctors may ask you to go for surgery. In DVT surgery, the doctor makes an incision into the blood vessel and will remove the clot. After that, the doctors repair the blood vessel and tissue.

In some cases, the doctors use a small inflating balloon in order to keep the blood vessel open while the doctor will remove the clot. After completing the surgery, the balloons are removed. Such surgery doesn’t happen without the risk of developing an infection, damage to the blood vessel, and excess bleeding.

In some cases, depending upon the complication caused, the doctor may prescribe the additional medication. For example, men with DVT who have difficulty with erections may get prescribed Sildenafil tablets like Cenforce 100.

However, this doesn’t mean Cenforce 100 can be consumed anytime. Cenforce 100 contains Sildenafil Citrate that interacts with blood pressure medications like nitrate drugs. Therefore, consume it only after consulting the doctor.

NOTE: Never try self-medication even though you are familiar with medicine like Cenforce 100, especially when you are already dealing with some other health complication like DVT.
