Liechtenstein, officially the Principality of Liechtenstein, is a double landlocked country in Central Europe, bordered by Switzerland in the west and south and by Liechtenstein in the east and north. Its area is just over 160 square kilometers (62 square miles) and it has an estimated population of 35,000. Its capital is Vaduz. The largest city is Schaan. Adjusted for purchasing power, Liechtenstein has the highest gross domestic product per capita in the world and the world's lowest foreign debt. At 1.5%, Liechtenstein also has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the world.

Business
Despite (or perhaps because of) its limited natural resources, Liechtenstein is one of the few countries in the world with more registered companies than citizens; it has developed a prosperous, highly industrialized free economy and has a financial services sector and a standard of living that is cheap compared to the urban areas of Liechtenstein's large European neighbors.

Very low corporate taxes (lowest in Europe after Andorra 10% maximum tax rate) - the corporate income tax rate is a flat 12.5% - as well as simple statutes have prompted around 73,700 holding (or so-called "letterbox") companies to set up their headquarters in Liechtenstein. This covers around 30% of Liechtenstein's state income. Liechtenstein also generates income from foundations, which are financial institutions created to increase the privacy of the financial holdings of foreign nationals. The foundation is registered in the name of a Liechtenstein citizen, often a lawyer.
