However, abuse of either substance is harmful, But if you are taking a combination of alcohol and Xanax, it produces serious side effects.

Xanax is considered to be safe if you are taking a therapeutic dosage of this medication. Alcohol increases the activity of the neurotransmitter that is Gamma-Amino-Butyric acid in the brain and thereby hampers the activity of the brain and the central nervous system. Over-sedative effects such as respiratory depression, cardiac arrest, and loss of consciousness may also occur in extreme cases.

Klonopin (Clonazepam) is an anti-anxiety medication. Klonopin belongs to the benzodiazepines class of medications and therefore, doctors recommend consuming alcohol with benzodiazepines. You can also experience slurred speech, euphoria, loss of coordination that leads to stumbling or falling, loss of memory, nausea or vomiting, irregular breathing, or heart rate. There are however serious side effects such as stroke, fatty liver, alcohol hepatitis, cirrhosis, high blood pressure, cholesterol, weakened immune system, higher risks of some types of cancer, and have long-term health consequences.
