7 Must Know Things Before Travelling to Maldives

A visit to Maldives is always enriching and enticing as this gorgeous island country is packed with a cluster of wonders and every time you visit this mystical land you get to witness something new. It has that typical sunny weather with the sea playing that perfect role of the superstar and the white clouds often peeping in with their cameos.

No Nude Beaches and PDA

Did you end up thinking that Maldives has those nude beaches where you can ogle at other nude people and go au natural with your spouse? Wait, Maldives is a strictly Islamic country and such things are not even heard of. In fact, even wearing skimpy bikinis is a strict no-no on the public beaches. Forget about PDA! You can do everything you want to do but in limits.

No Alcohol Carrying

We know how the young generation of today loves to booze. Maldives being strictly Islamic you cannot carry your own bottles. However, the good thing is that you can get them at your hotels and resorts. So cheer up!

Pick Up a Few words of Dhivehi

You will be facing communication issue in Maldives as Dhivehi is considered to be the language in which the locals communicate so to interact with them you need to pick up some common words like hello and thank you. After all, you are just one Google away from becoming a master of this language. The good thing for some of the lazy-lumps like you is that you do not have to mandatorily go through this ordeal. They speak English very well and unless you are an Inzamam-ul-Haq, you will get along pretty well.

Do Not Carry Any Religious Object

It will be better not to carry anything which is religious in nature. That is to say it is best not to carry any image or idol of any deity or to carry any religious text or book which may be anti-Islamic in nature.

Take light Clothes but Not the Skimpy Ones

Maldives has a good friendly weather. So you should carry light clothes. At the same time, make sure that your dresses do cover up your parts. When you are in the towns and the villages, you will have to dress up a bit conservatively. Those peek-a-boo dresses or those thigh-slits and off-shoulders have to be discarded for the moment. Keep this one tip in mind- dress up in Maldives as you would be dressing up while going inside a temple.

Do Watch Out For Pickpockets

Though Maldives is pretty safe in the general sense, still some pickpockets can be on the prowl. Tourists are much more vulnerable and so it is essential that you keep a watch out for them and guard your valuables while roaming about.

Hunt Down Some Veggie Restaurants

If you are a pure vegetarian and cannot stand the sight of fish (forget about eating it), it will be advisable that you find out, in advance, some veg restaurants in the neighborhood of your hotel. We say this because most of the restaurants out there will serve you fish, especially the delicious Tuna fish.
