Nowadays, it appears that it's impossible to spend more than a couple of minutes on the Internet without running across an article, blog or even a webcast on the ways that artificial intelligence (AI) is going to transform how we do business. This is true for not only companies that are tech-focused, but any business large enough to have their own IT department. AI is already changing the way things have been done for years by utilizing machine learning to process massive amounts of data in ways that humans can't, to automations taking over a large amount of manual processes in the service desk. All these efforts are aimed to free the human IT capital to support service management and agile development efforts across organizations. AI as a service is not something that is the future, but rather an aspect of ITSM best practices. Advances in natural language processing will enable IT teams to handle the process of service requests, modifications, and incidents (along with their root causes) in innovative methods. Machine learning advances will also assist in the management of knowledge in ways we're only beginning to understand. AI can not only make chatbots more efficient, but also customize these interactions and prioritize service request inquiries so that tickets are correctly assigned and sent to the right teams.
