Well-known in China and abroad, the artist's fame reached a new peak when his artwork The Last Supper, a piece inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's work of the same name that takes aim at China's reform and opening-up, sold for $23.3 million at a Sotheby's auction in 2013.

This sale made him the "most expensive" Asian artist in the world.

After exhibiting worldwide, Zeng has returned to Beijing to hold his largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever: Zeng Fanzhi: Parcours. "This is my most comprehensive exhibition. It includes artworks from nearly all of my different periods," Zeng said on Sunday during an interview at a press conference for the exhibition.

At the press conference, UCCA curator Philip Tinari said the center spent almost two years preparing for the exhibition, which boasts more than 60 works from more than 50 collectors from eight countries and regions. The works cover nearly three decades of the artist's career, with the earliest work dating back to 1990 and the newest finished just this spring.

"The first artwork (in the exhibition) is called Parcours (trail). We believe this name really fits [url=http://www.chargersauthoritystore.com/Authentic-Hunter-Henry-Chargers-Jersey/]Hunter Henry Black Jersey[/url] , because this exhibition is the trail of a great artist," Tinari said, explaining where they came up with the name for the exhibition.

Born in 1964 and growing up during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Zeng's personal growth followed hand in hand with the development of China's contemporary art [url=http://www.chargersauthoritystore.com/Authentic-Kyzir-White-Chargers-Jersey/]Kyzir White Black Jersey[/url] , as well as society as a whole.

He was greatly influenced by Expressionism, especially German Expressionist painters while attending art school in the 1980s.

He gained recognition for his Mask series soon after he moved to Beijing. The atmosphere of alienation that the series gives off was inspired by his personal experiences in the city. At the time, he had to live a hidden life in the capital as he lacked the hukou (resident permit) required by the city.

That series also set auction records in 2008, when Mask Series No.6 sold for more than $9.7 million at the Asian Contemporary Art Evening sale held by Christie's Hong Kong.

Although the sale brought with it criticism about the true value of his work, this didn't stop Zeng from becoming one of the most influential Chinese artists in the world.
