Will hosted PBX services improve my business?

Business today and business two decades ago are hard to compare. Many new technologies have emerged that have permanently changed how firms run. Take business phone service, for example. Internet phone service for business is more straightforward than the old circuit-switched telephony. It unifies many business communications channels making employees and customers exchange information faster.

And just like that, in five to six years, your precious business phone switch became antiquated. Everyone around seemed to be dumping theirs in favor of hosted VoIP service.

Hosted PBX is a cloud-based communication system that is cheaper and easier to operate. The modern worker prioritizes flexibility. Cloud solutions have enabled this freedom affecting the quality of work or the efficacy of employees in the office.

Can I have my conventional PBX hosted?

Every once in a while, I get asked by a business owner who already has an existing PBX: “Can I just have my PBX hosted”. The short answer is “yes, as long as this is an IP-based PBX”. When this happens, the question on my mind is always “why?”.

One reason could be a concern over the sovereignty of the internal call records. Other is the privacy of the calls themselves. I suppose another small benefit is not having to retrain your existing staff to use a new PBX system?

The key drawback is obvious - if you collocate your PBX in an ISP’s data center, you still need to maintain and support it. Buying a Unified Communications phone service just seems like a less expensive proposition.

Your businesses will have to retain their IT staff or phone contractors to make your onsite PBX hosted. However, you may begin using a hosted PBX small business phone system if you use private IP addresses over a VPN connection. This way, your PBX becomes pretty much portable anywhere.

You can Make Omnichannel Communication easier.

Another buzzword, but it’s simple. Really. Businesses nowadays communicate with one another through a variety of methods. Think Voice, Video, SMS, Fax, Chat, etc. Employees use multiple communication technologies to collaborate from a remote workplace. Of course, to increase workforce productivity, your company must enable omnichannel communication, which is only possible with phone and Internet services.

Keep your phone system secure and reliable.

The cloud communication service providers operate the hosted PBX phone systems in their data centers. The upkeep of those data centers isn’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Don’t try this at your home office unless you are prepared to pay for redundant power and Internet feeds and all the facilities that go with it. Providers must maintain data centers to keep downtime to a minimum. When a PBX phone system is hosted on private cloud servers in one of these datacenters, you can rest assured that your communications aren’t interrupted all of a sudden.

In addition, VoIP providers take precautions to avoid security breaches and targeted assaults. The point here is that many firms are migrating from on-premise PBX phone systems. To save money, they purchase phone and Internet services from the same provider where it is possible or practical. Hosted PBX solutions offer dependable service even to the smallest business.

To sum it all up

You can undoubtedly get that PBX hosted if you are seriously attached to your current on-premise phone system. Keep in mind that this is an expensive proposition with more drawbacks than benefits.

The rest of us can settle for a cloud PBX service and be done with it.

In Conclusion:

Hosted PBX solutions enable organizations to use modern telephone features without an on-premises telephone switch. Hopefully, this helps you figure out if PBX services are a good fit for your company.
