Why Python is a great option for web development?

Python language has been a trend during the last few years and it continues to be so, because this type of code is easy and offers many opportunities in the development process.
Among the existing programming languages, Python is one of the first that was born in the Internet Age. Despite being older than Java, this language hasn´t become popular until a few years ago.

Among the languages that professionals in the field “would like to learn the most”, according to HackerEater ranking, Python appears in second place, with 24%. This is because it is popular because of its versatility in different projects, being able to be applied on mobile devices to large servers.

Python is among the most wanted skills in job openings, behind Java and SQL. However, recruitment site Indeed.com noticed an increase in searches for Python developer openings.

According to the survey, the demand for professionals trained in Python was modest in 2014, as only 8% of vacancies required knowledge. After 5 years, the number jumped to 18%, approaching Java (20.8%) and SQL (21.9%).

On the other hand, the demand for data scientists is only growing in the market, including being titled as the “profession of the future”, because it can be applied in different industries. Not to mention the availability of collections to learn about the subject, for example, PyBrain and Numpy.

Data analysis is the main Python application, according to the Python Developers Survey 2019 study. According to the survey, 59% of respondents reported data analytics as the top reason for using Python. In second and third position, web development (51%) and machine learning (40%) are listed.

Regarding web development, Python allows execution in a few minutes, which helps a lot is the availability of frameworks for website development, such as: Django, Flask and Pylons. Even social networks like Instagram and Pinterest are good examples of sites that use these frameworks.

Another advantage is that Python is very easy to learn because it is open source, which makes it easy to read. Even professionals in the field say that it is very similar to the English language. For example, if you want to program the phrase “hello world”, you only need to use one line of code, unlike Java which would require at least three lines. Not to mention that the language supports different platforms, such as Windows, Linux, Macintosh, Solaris, Playstation, among others.

Conceived and developed by Guido Van Rossum, a Dutch mathematician, in the early 90's, Python was created with the objective of optimizing code reading and stimulating the productivity of those who create them, whether they are programmers or other professionals.

The idea arose, like almost all good ideas, from a need: to save development time and improve efficiency in a project developed at the institute where Guido was a researcher. For this improvement to be more quickly and efficiently, Guido developed a very uncomplicated and flexible language: Python.

Once this language started to allow the creation from very simple scripts to extremely powerful systems, professionals from various areas began to progressively use it more and more. Today, in addition to software developers, we have biologists, accountants, physicists and other professionals leveraging their skills through it.

As mentioned above, Python is a very popular language in the areas of technology related to data analysis, research, algorithm development and AI. But, after all, what can be done in Python? Below, I will detail its uses in each of these areas a little more.

Scripting and Automation: Automating tasks is one of the biggest goals of a technology professional. And developing automation scripts with Python is totally possible and fast thanks to its many native libraries, available along with your installation.

Web development: It is one of its most popular uses. From humble websites like landing pages to complex ERPs, the language has an extensive diversity of frameworks, including Flask, Django and FastAPI.

Test framework: If testing time is an unpleasant time in your workday, be aware that with Python your life will be much easier. It has a large volume of integrated test frameworks, in addition to several modules dedicated exclusively to testing frameworks. So, using Python you will be able to adequately test your application. This justifies why software developers in Python love using TDD (Test Driven Development), bringing more security and confidence to their projects.

Big data: The analysis and interpretation of large volumes of data, a knowledge area called Big Data, is one of the most popular fields.
