What is the best way to clean an Italian leather sofa?

The first furniture that everyone looks like when they enter is sofas in the living room. We have 3 seat sofa come bed that we use in our living room. Most of the time when it comes to cleaning, I book the local house cleaning agency to schedule the sofa cleaning. But sometimes I make time to invest in sofa cleaning service. Here are the
tips I follow for Italian leather sofas
.

DUSTING AND SIMPLE WIPING SHOULD BE A ROUTINE

Regularly dusting and wiping your leather sofa is one of the easiest yet most important things you can do to keep your leather sofa in great shape. As simple as it sounds, most of the damage comes from accumulation of dust and substances (such as food and drinks, and yes, your sweat) when it sits in for too long.

Simply use a slightly damp cloth, without detergent or soap, to gently wipe the surface of the sofa. Make it a weekly routine, and it will go a long way to keep your leather in great condition. It is as simple as that.

DON’T LET THE STAINS SET

While high quality leather sofas are durable and harder to stain as compared to fabric upholster or low-grade/faux leather, they still require some care in this regard. Whenever a spillage occurs, immediately use a clean absorbent cloth to clean and dry the leather. If required, moisten a soft cloth with lukewarm water and dap affected areas, then let it air dry naturally.

Greasy or oily stains, or stains that have set in overnight may require additional cleaning products, but is not difficult to deal with and we will cover that in another article!

DON’T USE A HAIR DRYER TO BLOW DRY YOUR LEATHER

One of the most common mistake is to use a hair dry to blow dry leather sofas after attempts to remove stains. This can overly dehydrate the leather and cause cracking in the long run. Instead, you can fan dry your sofa or if possible, move it to an area with some sun for 1-2 hours.

ALWAYS TEST ANY PRODUCT

The leather used to make different furniture varies so not all products will have the same effect. Even if the product label says “suitable for all leather”, PLEASE (yes, we have to highlight this!), it may contain chemicals that do not work well with certain types of leather.

Do a test by dabbing a small amount of the product on somewhere inconspicuous to ensure that there is no discoloration or any other adverse effect.

An additional note here is to skip the home remedies when it comes to cleaning leather upholstery. Let’s keep our vinegar and mayonnaise for salads and sandwiches instead!
