What is software engineering?
Software engineers analyze, design, build and test software systems. They work with the latest technologies in cutting edge application areas such as artificial intelligence, computer security, cloud computing, mobile applications, the web, video games and multimedia.

It is thanks to these specialists that the hardware, the operating system and the software interact with each other so that we can make the most of the technologies. You only have to watch a frenzied car race with special effects on a game console to realize it! Software engineers can also, for example, develop special effects software for science fiction films.

They can also determine how the appropriate user interfaces (icons, windows, images, 3D objects) appear on the screen. Others will design, specify, validate and verify software for integrated processors. We find this type of processors not only in our personal computers, but also in cars, airplanes, etc.

As part of their work, software engineers are responsible for all phases of software product development. They plan and coordinate the execution of projects and ensure their quality and reliability by developing a maintenance and configuration management program.

It should be noted that Polytechnique Montréal's software engineering and computer engineering programs offer dynamic training thanks to the interactive teaching facilities of the Lassonde pavilions. Their state-of-the-art equipment makes it possible to alternate between masterful presentations, computer demonstrations and teamwork.
