Formerly characterized as a "method", sometimes as "genius", industrial engineering is a rather recent field of expertise. It makes it possible to optimize production operations and therefore to better manage industrial projects, in terms of costs, planning or quality, throughout the project.

Definition of industrial engineering
Industrial engineering intervenes over the entire life cycle of a project and brings together several trades. It is in a way the equivalent of a project management or direction in the tertiary sector.

Its field of intervention is therefore very broad:

commercial: prospecting and participation in calls for tenders from a technical point of view
feasibility: analysis of costs and deadlines, but also of technical possibilities of realization
production: support for the realization of the project for all that is regulatory documentation
purchasing: supply of equipment to be delivered for the production phase
management of subcontractors: choice and follow-up during the project
control of operations
reception of the work
Work in industrial engineering
Just like its field of intervention, the number of sectors and trades concerned by industrial engineering is vast.

Already, industrial engineering is applicable to all sectors of industry. Companies have the choice between integrating an in-house engineering department or calling on a service provider. We can thus find consulting companies in nuclear , chemical, petroleum, electronic engineering , etc.

Thus, the trades of industrial engineering are varied and are far from being all engineering positions as the name suggests. On the contrary, the skills required for a functional industrial engineering service are multiple and complementary: lawyers, process experts, electricians, mechanical project engineers , buyers, experts in taxation, climate engineering, etc.

Train in industrial engineering
If industrial engineering requires calling on many skills, the people who will oversee the entire process are executives, graduates of at least a baccalaureate 5. Although the profession is relatively recent, higher education courses exist, more or less long:

Master of industrial engineering
Engineering and Management of Industrial Systems (IMSI) training
These courses allow students to be able to know the functioning and organization of industrial processes. The field is so vast that it offers the possibility of specializing or, at least, of following options to orient their future position: international trade, industrial installations, systems analysis, etc.
