Today, there is a growing number of companies looking for UX Engineers. A UX engineer is a front-end engineer who focuses on the technical aspects of the entire design system.

A UX engineer plays an integral role in the end user's interaction with a digital product. This ranges from clicking a mouse button to swiping. A UX engineer's focus on the technical elements of the user experience is what separates him from other types of software engineers.

A UX Engineer has a strong design aesthetic sense along with a technical background. He is like a translator. Although his role may vary from company to company, his most common responsibilities are to transform the design language into a component library, encoded in a framework or library; to drive adoption of the design system throughout the organization; to convert low-fidelity designs to high-fidelity prototypes using component libraries and to improve communication and collaboration between engineering and design teams.

In general, the role of a UX engineer is to help build design systems, that is, the set of assets and guidelines that convey identity for digital products and applications.

A UX engineer typically focuses on Human Computer Interaction (HCI), which implies understanding how the components are being used and if the product is intuitive; development, which implies that each developed component must have a clean and error-free code and that the styling architecture should be modular with boilerplate code and easy-to-use CSS variables, which allow that other teammates who do not handle this architecture can enter and make changes without problem; and design, which is essential for him to provide feedback when a UX designer tells the team what is most efficient visually.

UX engineers possess the skill set of a front-end engineer, but with a working knowledge of UX design principles. They collaborate with programmers, researchers, designers, and other professionals to conceptualize and deliver an effective user experience.

UX engineers collaborate with user researchers and designers to define usability goals, provide solutions, and advise on the technical feasibility of emerging designs. UX engineers are essential in helping decide which of those ideas are possible given the technical limitations of the project.

Also, they work with designers to create a library of consistent and usable components for wireframing and prototyping tools, as well as for delivery to the front-end development team. This means bringing together web pages, style sheets, and coding controls for reuse throughout the interface.
Also, all the components, widgets, pieces and parts need to be developed. UX engineers don't focus as much on non-UI front-end elements like data integration,

APIs, performance, or analytics. But they do collaborate with the rest of the front-end developers to make sure that the designs run smoothly as intended, with elegantly simple and efficient code.

Last but not least, from dreaming up a new control or widget in ideation, through building the prototype, to final integration into the interface, UX engineers help with user testing. If an element doesn't test well, they collaborate to find a solution. If there is a bug, they work with the development department to determine how to fix it or modify the code to better integrate with the system and meet technology requirements.
