Passive RFID Tags:

Characteristics: These tags do not have an internal power source. Instead, they rely on the electromagnetic energy emitted by an RFID reader to power the tag and transmit data. Because of this, they are typically smaller and less expensive than active tags.
Uses:

Active RFID Tags:

Characteristics: These tags contain an internal battery that powers the tag's transmitter. This allows them to transmit signals over longer distances compared to passive tags.
Uses:
Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS): Useful in hospitals or large manufacturing facilities where precise location tracking of assets or personnel is needed.
Vehicle Tracking: Employed in toll collection systems and fleet management for tracking vehicle movements.
Environmental Monitoring: Used in applications that require constant monitoring of conditions, such as temperature or humidity-sensitive shipments.
Semi-Active (or Battery-Assisted Passive) RFID Tags:

Characteristics: These tags have a small battery that powers the tag’s internal circuitry but still relies on the reader to activate the transmission of data. This enhances their range and performance compared to passive tags.
Uses:
Supply Chain Management: Useful for tracking high-value or sensitive items over longer distances.
Logistics: Employed in shipping and receiving to provide more detailed information about the goods being transported.
Cold Chain Monitoring: Used in industries where monitoring environmental conditions (like temperature) is crucial for product integrity.
Each type of RFID tag offers different benefits depending on the application, ranging from cost-effectiveness and small size to extended range and enhanced data storage capabilities. The choice of tag type often depends on factors such as the required read range, environmental conditions, and budget constraints.
