Hyperactive lifestyle and multiple tasks lead to compromising memory. The same holds for kids. These days the school curriculum includes different activities as education is shifting focus towards overall development. It has led to kids engaging in sports, arts, creativity, along academics. Hence, these activities have made them multi-taskers from a young age.

Amidst this, their memory retention gets affected. But there is still a way to restore and improve it. Like any other skill, it needs continuous practice and regular use. You must find the appropriate activities to enhance it. These include games like Rubik cube, brainteasers, puzzles, etc. There are some other techniques you should try as well.

Use visualisation: The disconnection between theoretical concepts and imagination makes learning concepts dull. As a result, children tend to forget things. So, create a mind map for them while teaching. This helps them paint a picture of what they read or learn. Visual aids like flashcards, drawings, etc., are also great tools to use. When these images get formed, they become easier to remember.

Adopt a multisensory approach: Our brain filters the information we receive. This is its advanced mechanism to send quick responses. So, when we listen to something, we need to do it repeatedly for it to register. This response speeds up when all our senses get to work. For instance, visualising, feeling, seeing, along with listening, helps memorise quickly. Therefore, use this tactic whenever possible while teaching concepts.

Encourage them: Besides teaching, other activities boost memory. The key is to identify them. The most effective are interactive tasks and play. They let you engage better. It is essential as opposed to instructing them. When kids see you being a part of doing something, they face less pressure. A chessboardis an apt game for such interactive mind-exercise.

Improve diet: Having a balanced diet is essential for both physical and mental wellbeing. Ensure to include foods rich in Omega-3, nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, etc., in your child's meals. This, coupled with good sleep, is the best brain booster. Other efforts show results only when your child is fit internally.

Play memory games: Like our muscles, the brain needs exercise to stay alert. It is achievable through various competitions. There are multiple online and offline options to choose from. These bring a sense of challenge and fun to build concentration. For instance, the little chess pieces are enough to keep your child contemplating. The more they try to find solutions, the more their brain trains.

Let them teach: Teaching others requires a person to understand the concept themselves fully. Hence, this is a great way to learn. It is also a helpful exercise to remember the learned material. So, asking kids to explain what they study is the best technique to sharpen their memory. It helps clear any gaps they might have in retention.
