Solid game, took about 3.5 hours to complete. Much more story-focused than the first game, with less actual gameplay, but more dialogue. The general atmosphere and tone is much heavier, too, with less joking around. Personally, I preferred the lighter tone of the first game, but this is still a great game.. This is a great game. Hopefully you, review reader, will play the first before this. You can really see the boost up in story telling, puzzle design and difficulty. Keep up the good work Invert.. Unhack 2 comes a few years after the original game and Destruction (both of which you should play before this, since those stories are a huge part of this one). The passage of time not only shows in the story, but in how the game was developed as well. It's a much bigger, more ambitious story than the earlier games. Gameplay during the unhacking sequences has also changed. It's much more puzzle-focused, rather than requiring fast reflexes like the other games in the series. Enemies only move when you do, so planning your moves is the key to success this time around. Honestly, I prefer the earlier style of unhacking, but that doesn't make the new system bad by any stretch of the imagination. Most of the game is pure story, told in a visual novel style. The unhacking sequences break up the various chapters. These levels themselves are smaller, but the more involved puzzles create challenge and add a respectable amount of time to the game as a whole. While bigger than the earlier Unhack games, it's not a long game, and can easily be played from start to finish in one afternoon. The characters were interesting, and the story kept me guessing what would happen next. It was more complex than I expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. I won't go into any detail on that to avoid spoilers, but this game kept me interested from beginning to end. If you've played the other games, you'll probably be surprised by the changes in style and gameplay, but you'll probably also be as hooked as I was. It won't be quite what you might have expected, but it's still a world worth returning to. Welcome back, dear unhacker.. Unhack 2 is a very different game from the orginal, while the first was 50% Gameplay seemlessly meshed with 50% story, This game is 5% gameplay sprinkled in with 95% story. That said, It's a work of art I can't recomend enough to fans of the original. I don't dare spoil a thing, but I will offer a fair warning: This isn't a brief afair like the orginal. It's a deeply touching and emotional work featuering themes of technology, love, family, humanity and the soul. But still, I believe every game deserves to be judged on it's own merits, 8/10: R.I.P Clippy. In terms of gameplay it was great, I loved the puzzles and I wish there where more puzzles to be honest. I also wished there was a log so I could read back on things. Spoilers for the next part because it's going to be focusing mainly on the story. Allright so the game starts you off as the creater which makes sense, you're fighting a new bad guy with a new ai. If the story had continued on that path then I would of been happy and this game would of gotten a reccomendation. But instead Clip clip ing dies, showing some animation which breaks my heart even more. Then the story goes like: WELP YOUR NOT REALLY A PERSON OR EVEN THE MAIN CHARICTER. and I'm like: What. ok let's see how this goes. I see the creator and I'm like: Oh so we'll fuze into the chip into his brain to make him stronger and continue the story like that. some resolution to this story at the end of it all. But then the game is like: welp here's someon how crappy ai are treated even though they're sentient and stuff. And I'm like: Ok so this might affect our charicter in the future when we fuze with the creator so we can get ai rights, right? Also i'm really liking my partner Program x at this point because she changed her clothes and hair and is adorable and protec cinnamon bun. Then it brings in charicters that I kinda care about but thought they where dead. then it brings in charicters I dont' care about at all and tried to make me feel bad when htey died. Rellly didn't care about that pompadour wearing doctor, cool pomp tho. Anyway the story concludes, Instead of reaching my full potental my charicter ing lobotomises themselves and gives the brain to X who turns into not cinnamon bun who has to care for their mentally challenged brother who's now going to be afraid of having any power from now on. All my charicters ambitions die, there is no future fo that charicter, the creator is like: HA IDIOT i'll just make a better you scrub. I am . and runs off. My charicter goes from being a really cool charicter who's perversion was comedy relief. To a crippled ai with perf girl. To an ai with a mass of potential only to have all those ambitions and possabilities of being cool and stuff squandered. Then to a disabled kid. might of been fine if my charicter wasn't an and just split the power 50 50. They wouldn't even have to worry about making each other worse because from what I could tell the quantum computer's current processing power was bottlenecked to each ai's drivers or whatever. or htey shared a driver but still. Overall there was no point to anyting in the game. Maybe a possible clone harem ending.. I really enjoyed the story, and how it moved forward from the events in the first game. Parts of the story really make you think about technology and A.I., in regards to how fast and advance things are becoming. The sequel focused more on story than the minigame puzzles, but I am fine with that. I also really enjoyed the music too. Overall, I say that if you liked Unhack, you'll have fun with Unhack 2.. There are things you should understand if you come across an InvertMouse visual novel, its emotional, its very emotional but not very long. IM is quickly becoming a masterclass when it comes to the short visual novel format and this is a perfect reflection of that. Unhack 2 deals with the very apparent problems that come with AI, in the society we live in this sort of thing is going to quickly be coming into focus, AI isnt perfect because its bad by humans, its in a way a reflection of those humans, their successes their problems, their hopes and dreams and how this can all lead to ones world crashing down or becoming their greatest successes, a story for the people behind the programs that you use, the unsung heroes per say, it is a story about greed and benevolence.
