We have various services for different age groups:

ASD as a neurological disorder is often diagnosed during early childhood and often results in various severity of language impairment. Some children with ASD have displayed struggles with social interaction, lack of interest in interacting with others, having fun while playing with similar aged children, and restricted interest in engaging with toys, etc. Some children with ASD may never develop language production, while others may demonstrate limited functional communication skills. Research has shown that children with ASD often have limited attention span and understanding of words or objects.

Typically children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder may demonstrate some form of the disorder with receptive and expressive language, articulation of speech sounds as well as social, emotional and pragmatic language skills. We offer speech Therapy for Kids and Speech therapy for adults who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at our clinic in Bellevue. The speech therapists work with preschool and school-aged children as well as adults who face communication challenges, language delays. We strive to facilitate improved speech sound production and facilitate social interactions and form meaningful relationships with peers and family.

Treatment involves a team approach, with collaboration and referrals with other specialists. These may include occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, special education teachers etc. The focus of therapy and the treatment plan differs greatly from individual to individual depending on the severity of treatment, the family’s goals and clinician judgment. We work comprehensively on implementing programs for verbal speech output, AAC devices, signs and gestures and other means of total communication to facilitate maximizing each child’s communication potential and minimize frustration.
