Troubleshooting Common Headset Equipment Problems

On some days, you wake up ready to face the day. And on some days, the complete opposite happens. You’ve got a huge pimple right on the center of your forehead, your crush went on a date with someone else, and your toothbrush broke. What’s worse, your headset isn’t working as well as it should. Well, you can do something about your headset. Try out these tips to see if they can help you fix your headset.
It Might Be the Headset
Before anything else, consider the age of the headset. How long has it been since you’ve started using that unit? Has it been years? Is the headset already outdated? If there’s been a constant stream of repairs, one after another, it might be time to retire your headset and upgrade to a better one.
Know Common Causes
Before you troubleshoot your call center headset, you’ll need to be familiar with common headset problems. The issue could be due to a damaged cable. The headphone jack might be defective, too, or the Bluetooth connectivity isn’t working. In some cases, the headset can’t sync audio with video.
It Might Be Compatibility
Or the lack of it. If your headset isn’t working in Windows, it might not be compatible with the system or driver. If you’ve just installed a Windows update right before your headset failed to work, that means the update was the cause of the problem. It’s a system issue, so you’ll want to check the headset.
Do a Preliminary Check
Always inspect your headset for possible issues or problems. If there are any signs of damage to the cords or any part of the headset, bring your headset to a repair service shop. Be sure to check if the repair can still be covered under the warranty. By recognizing the signs, you’ll know if troubleshooting the equipment on your own will work or if the problem requires professional assistance.
Clean Your Headset
One way to keep your headset working with little to no problems is to keep it clean. Dirt and dust as well as lint could go into the jack, so be sure to check. In some cases, the problem could be resolved just by cleaning the jack. That can be enough to get the headset working again.
Change the Batteries
If you’re using a wireless model and it stops working with no warning, don’t worry. Sometimes, the answer is simple. Change the batteries. Properly dispose of those batteries before you try out the headset with a new set of batteries. If your headset starts working again, then you know what the problem is.
Restart Your Computer
Sometimes, after you’ve installed an update, you’ll notice that some of your apps or gear might not be working like your headset. Just restart the computer. The lost function could be a glitch. If restarting your computer doesn’t fix it, though, you’ll need to consider other options.
Update Your System
Try upgrading your sound card driver, too. If your headset starts working properly, that means the lack of updates caused the problem.
