ShiftYourCarcass did some research and discovered that "when you upgrade a 5/5 star gem to 10 levels that are associated with a piece of equipment above rank 6 D2R Items," there is a "hidden whale'mechanic'."

The "awakening" process that the gem goes through will enable it to acquire the additional slots it requires. This means that for each legendary gem to reach rank 10, a player must insert five more legendary gems into these slots.

A user will require six instead of 36 (!) due to "awakening." to their highest level, 5-star gems.

"To awaken a gem, the gem must be level 10 and you must purchase an item only found in the cash shop. Dawning Echos are purple orbs that cost around 1000 eternal orbs. "ShiftYourCarcass noted that it costs $30 per equipment awakening.

Each 5-star gem would cost $540,000, with an average price of $15,000. Additionally, six shining echoes would cost approximately $180.

The issue is that "whales" who have less luck must pay more (perhaps a million dollars cheap D2R ladder items?). since the 5-star gem drop in Diablo Immortal is not guaranteed.
