If you want to experience the real essence of rural life, you must visit the town of Ban Lakhon. The village is tucked away in the mountains and has a small market inside. The food here is as cheap and tasty as anyplace else in Thailand. But do note that you must walk to the closest restroom when in town. The locals are very friendly and will happily offer you a guided tour of the region.

The rice paddies of Ban Lakhon are only a couple of minutes from city. Many tourists come to see the paddies throughout their stay from the neighboring Phuket or Ko Lipe villages. Although it is a rather small city, you can easily find some fantastic fish restaurants, which specialize in fresh seafood.

If you want to get a true taste of rural life, you need to attempt and eat some local food during your stay in the town. It is fairly common to see many families cooking together over a very simple table. The neighborhood curry is made of coconut milk and onions. If you want something more fancy, then there are a number of restaurants around the town that serve dishes such as Laem Singh's Chicken Curry (which is made from chicken breast and fried at a mildly seasoned coconut broth). Obviously, local road food can be on the corner stalls near the primary road.

If you are staying at the southern end of Ban Lakhon, then it is possible that you walk into the beach, which is just a few kilometers away. The closest beach to town is located only by the northern entrance of the resort, where there is a little shophouse that's available to vendors who sell snacks and other things Ban Lavita Thuan An. It's also easy to get to the pier, which is a short drive from the sandy shore.
