Designed in the '60s, this Arabian Nights fantasy uses expressive animation to detail the story of a shy, near-silent cobbler who tries to win the affections of a distant princess. Meanwhile, the entertainingly evil, rhyme-speaking Grand Vizier Zig-zag tries to win the Princess's hand, and wages war on the peaceful Golden City. It's up to a rather odd, unspeaking local thief to set things right by accident.
When Tack upsets Zigzag the Vizier, the wizard drags him off to the royal castle, where Princess Yum Yum falls for the bashful boy and saves him from execution. Unfortunately, Zigzag plans to marry the princess in order to succeed her father, King Nod. The Thief, meanwhile, is more interested in gold than love and takes off with the protective orbs topping the palace. Together Tack and Yum Yum attempt to retrieve them in order to prevent Zigzag and the One-Eye army from conquering the city.
I am reviewing the fan-edit of the film I was shown somewhere by someone. I'm told That version is easy to find and could be on YouTube right this second, honestly I haven't checked. Anyway, on to my review of the fan-edit, AKA Recobbled. Frankly, it was a huge mess and I was wondering why this even has a following.. until the end of it. The ending is simply awesome. Seeing the whole war-machine "battle" or sequence or whatever made the me glad I kept watching the film. I'll have see what the official DVD release looks like. And there is even a documentary about this fan-edit from what I'm told. But I have to be honest with you, the fan-edit just jam packs everything into it. It was like they threw in every scrap, drawing or whisper of the film they could find. It is basically a major non-edit. Anyway, the fan-edit of the film has its moments but it can not touch anything Disney put out in the 90s. So yeah, after I watch the DVD release I will revisit this review. For now, the fan edit gets a six out of ten. Honestly, this film had a lot of potential and that is why so many people are passionate about it.
I defy anyone to dislike this film. It is colorful, beautifully animated, hilarious, and musical, with plenty of scenes you will remember and love. And also I'm starting to love fantasy movies (animated or live action) set in Arabia. The casting for the film was brilliant! with the talents of :

· Matthew Broderick...Tack, who was "Adult" Simba from Disney's The Lion King; · Jennifer Beals/Bobbi Page...Princess Yum Yum (speaking and singing), · Vincent Price...Zigzag,I love the talents of Vincent, I even have many of his films; · Jonathan Winters...The Thief and... · Clive Revill ... King Nod (YumYum's dad).

I love Princess YumYum, she's one of my favorite Non-Disney Princesses. And I love her song "More Than This."
As of 2016, there has been no word if Disney will restore/finish the remaining 15 minutes of animation on this film. He was walking in the desert and was exposed to the sun so he got a tan. The only logical reason he was pale in the beginning is that he rarely goes outside.
