Jim is on holiday and is going to meet Rollin. He stops off at a small town for a drink. While there he sees something suspicious and that's when the doctor takes him to his office and drugs him. When Jim doesn't show up, Rollin goes looking for him. When the doctor takes him to see Jim, he claims he was in an accident and can't move or talk. But, actually, he was given a paralytic. When they leave Rollin alone with Jim, Jim blinks out a message to Rollin. It seems that everyone in town is part of spy network and two of them were sent to assassinate a Russian defector. Rollin calls in the others and they try to get Jim out and stop the assassination.
While en route to meet up with Rollin for a weekend of skiing, Phelps stops in a small town for a bite to eat. When he sees something he shouldn't have, he is drugged to paralyze him while planning how to deal with him. When Rollin arrives to check on Jim, he becomes suspicious and summons Barney, Cinnamon and Willie to the town. They soon discover that the townspeople are actually part of a group of foreign assassins. In addition, two of them are on their way to Los Angeles on an assassination mission. The IMF now has to rescue Jim as well as find out who the pair are going to assassinate before they carry it out.

The people of the town learns that the members of the IMF,who are currently on vacation, are member of the assassination network.They all kidnap Jim.But they all got their information wrong as a pair of assassins are on their way to kill someone.Meanwhile,the other members of the IMF must both save Jim and prevent the planned assassination.

No question that the rating is high on it as it was a memorable episode of Mission Impossible despite being far-fetched and unrealistic.But nevertheless,the viewer is treated to a fun and entertaining episode as we get to see how the other members of the IMF acted to both save Jim and prevent a killing.Adding to the fun is the condition of Jim as well as how quick in mind the other IMF members are. Aside from one logical error, this is among the very best episodes of season two of "Mission: Impossible". It's extremely good because it is so very different--and after a lot of familiar episodes, it's nice to see something so unfamiliar.

The episode does NOT begin with Phelps getting his assignment. Instead, he's on vacation and wanders into some small town. What he doesn't know is that this is an EVIL town--and everyone is involved in some sort of conspiracy. When he accidentally learns too much, the town deals with him in a novel manner--they drug him so that he cannot move or speak. Then, when Rollin comes looking for him, they explain that Jim had a stroke and was on death's door. Rollin is allowed to see him, as the town suspects nothing amiss--and using his eyes, Jim is able to communicate with Rollin about his predicament. However, it's the whole town--and Rollin cannot contact the police since they are in on it. So, he gets Cinnamon, Barney and Willy to come to the town to ostensibly tell him goodbye--though, of course, they're coming to rescue him.

As I mentioned there is a minor problem with the plot. In such a situation, you would ASSUME that Rollin would contact federal authorities (such as the FBI) and the town would be invaded. Their way of handling it was much more cool to watch--just not exactly realistic. Still, it's a dandy episode--and one that shows very clever writing and ingenuity. Well worth seeing.
