Solo and Kuryakin, spending some off-time in Rome, are approached by Clara, an old flame of Solo's. She seeks Solo's help so Emil, a gypsy leader, can escape Terbuf along with papers that implicate the corrupt leadership of that country. Kuryakin tags along. His knowledge of gypsies and clear head (where Clara is concerned) will be of great assistance to Solo.
THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. –The Terbuf Affair- 1964

This is the 14th episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in black and white with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

UNCLE agent Robert Vaughn is approached by old flame, Madlyn Rhue for help. Her Eastern Bloc country is suffering under the heel of the vicious State Police. The Police are also stealing from the aid the UN is sending to help the poor etc.

Vaughn enters the country and is soon neck deep it trouble with the local State Police commander. The State Police bosses are quite happy raking money off the top of the foreign aid. They have no desire to quit. Vaughn has to go! Agent McCallum now hits town, and with the aid of the local gypsy population, rescues Vaughn. The main leader of the underground resistance, Rene Aubuchon, is convinced to exit the country with Vaughn and McCallum. He can prove to the UN what is really happening to the aid and stop the State Police corruption.

There is of course, the mandatory fistfights and shoot outs needed before all can escape over the border.

This is a fun episode with a nice pace, and plenty of action. STAR TREK fans will recall Miss Rhue from the STAR TREK episode, "Space Seed". Rhue is the Star Fleet officer who falls for the charms of the villainous, Ricardo Montalban, who plays Khan. Also in the cast is future STAR TREK guest star, Michael Forest. Forest would star as Apollo in the episode, "Who Mourns for Adonis". What and where is Terbuf? In the Balkans is certainly not an adequate description.

There is plenty of duplicity and general backstabbing in this episode. Madelyn Rhue's husband supposedly wants to help but he goes directly to the bad people and instead of being embraced, he is immediately jailed and someone else takes his place and forces Rhue to pass him off to Napoleon and Ilya as her husband.

Of course, the Rhue character had once been a flame of Soto's and he plays that part to the hilt.

Gypsies abound in this predictable episode. There is very little to much excitement here.
Seven years previous. Richards No, but he knows enough about their ways to enlist their aid in the episode.
