David Ackerman is a recently promoted plain-clothes detective in Los Angeles, and he's lugging around a lot of emotional baggage. He's estranged from his wealthy father Eugene because of his career choice and he's having troubles with his live-in girlfriend Sarah. David is still haunted by the accidental death of his brother years ago, an accident that David was responsible for, and as a result, David is still racked with guilt. David has chosen to work in the auto theft division, believing it offers a chance for quick promotion, and his partner is Nick Pulovski, a former race car driver who is now a veteran cop. David always keeps his emotions in check while the hard-drinking Nick can explode at the drop of a hat. David and Nick set out to break up a massive auto theft operation that's being run by German crime boss Strom and his partner Liesel. Strom is the man who murdered Nick's previous partner, and Nick is determined to bring Strom down. As Nick and David do a stake out, their hatred for one another slowly decreases, and David sees that he can learn something about police work from Nick. When Nick is later kidnapped by Strom's gang, David has to rescue him, and he relies heavily on the crude techniques taught to him by Nick, ripping Los Angeles apart in the process.
Nick Pulovski is a cop, who is presently assigned to the auto theft division and who for the most part of his career has not done anything worthwhile. But when he discovers that a man named Strom is the brains behind a major car theft and chop shop ring, he sees this as his opportunity to do something. After his partner is killed, the case is then transfered to homicide, so he is taken off the case. And he is assigned a new partner, David Ackerman. a cop who has just recently been promoted to detective. But Pulovski feeling as if Strom is his decides to continue pursuing him but Ackerman who tries to play by the rules is not sure what to do, and he is also a little afraid cause of a childhood incident.
Dirty Harry is back and he's gone so far undercover he has changed his name to Nick.

His mate gets killed at the scene of a crime, and so this leaves Nick solo for a scene. Enter Charlie Sheen who is a rich kid who doesn't want help from his dad.

They both go after Raul Julia because they could foresee that he was going to be in streetfighter and wanted to warn him.

cue much gun play, pyrotechnics and some very bad acting.

But it's a blast all the way. This is Eastwood's worst directing gig, but i feel he did this so he could make one of his beloved projects.

The story is non-existent, some of the acting is awfully bad (it's not just a job, its a ***** ADVENTURE!!), and there are some gaping plot holes, but they really don't make fun action movies like this anymore.

the one liners come thick and fast, the set pieces for the time, are amazing and the fact that there is only one scene with CGI really shows.

So it's your basic buddy cop formula movie, nothing else, but it's fun, and Eastwood is as good as ever. Sheen is okay but remains with one look and one monotone voice throughout.

So to elaborate, it's been done a thousand times before, it's predictable, and the story stinks due to poor narration and editing.

But it's still a good action film, with some inventive use of explosions and xander Berkeley.

plus it's the best Clint Eastwood movie featuring Eastwood being sexually abused.

a real treat.. Another Eastwood movie is made and this this he plays another veteran cop who's not a rogue. "The Rookie" is played by bad boy Charlie Sheen. He brash, hot headed, and always a trouble maker, reminds me of "Dirty" Harry Callahan. He shoots up a bar, sets it on fire, and runs amok everywhere. Raul Julia and Sonia Braga play the killers. Julia plays Strom who kills Powell(Hal Williams, "Private Benjamin", "227") and later kidnaps Pulovski(Eastwood), where Liesl(Braga) tortures and later rapes him and films his rape on video. Bone chilling! Ackerman(Sheen) goes all the way to help his partner while others are trying to track him down. He sees the "porn" and Pulovski called him a "pervert" because that was him getting raped by Liesl. Then I liked the Mercedes escaping the explosion scene. What a ride! The airport scene was memorable. Each one of those goon took it to the head. with their own bullet. BANG! BANG! This movie was great, worth the watch worth the time, Eastwood always does a great job in anything he does. Rating 4 out of 5 stars.
