The Most Versatile Metal: Aluminum Tape

All the various products made of aluminum can be melted down and reused to make more products, which when their usefulness is over can in their turn be recycled.

From the soda can to the car engine, aluminum is a reusable resource.

For our modern society, aluminum is by far the most versatile metal.

We can extrude, cast, form, machine, mold and shape it, and we use it for a wide range of purposes, including soda cans, airplanes and even modern art.

Aluminum is also relatively cheap, at least after we learned to process it in the late 1800s. Prior to that, it was extracted from ore, and that made it more valuable than gold.

In the earth's crust, aluminum is the most abundant metal. Despite that, it never occurs in nature because of how chemically reactive the metal is. Prior to ore extraction, people used alum or alumina.

In the early 1800s, the textile industry used alumina as a mordant. Through the processing and separating of the alumina, the modern processes were born.
