After retrieving the Crystal Skull in Utah, Flynn Carsen receives a map in the mail with the secret location of King Solomon's Mines. When the scroll is stolen, Judson explains the power of the Key of Solomon's book and assigns Flynn to retrieve the map. The map is useless without the legend piece to decipher it, which is located in Volubilis near the Roman ruins in Morocco. Flynn heads to Casablanca to the ruins where he is chased by a group of mercenaries leaded by General Samir. They too want to find the location of King Solomon's mines. Flynn teams-up with Professor Emily Davenport working in the dig and they escape from General Samir and his men. While traveling to Gedi, they save the local Jomo from death and the trio faces a dangerous journey through the wild Africa.
Librarian-turned-adventurer Flynn Carsen endeavors to find King Solomon's mines.
For the Sci-Fi channel The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines is not too bad. It is not a great movie, and could have been much more, but there have been far worse movies both from the Sci-Fi channel and in general. The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines had some lavish sets and photography, some decent action and special effects and a rousing score. Noah Wyle is a likable lead and Jane Curtin and especially Bob Newhart are subtly deadpan. However, Gabrielle Anwar is beautiful but bland and out of place and Erik Avari's villainous role lacks subtlety. Wyle and Anwar's chemistry just isn't there either, while Olympia Dukais is good but severely underused. The script and story are generally weak. The humour in the script comes across as contrived and unfunny with a lot of quite stilted dialogue, and the storytelling is dull and derivative of Indiana Jones except with more predictability and less of the thrills, suspense and fun. The characters are clichéd, that's not a problem but it is if they are not written well or not interesting, and generally while not as problematic as other Sci-Fi films that was the case with The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines. So all in all, not terrible, just not good either. 5/10 Bethany Cox
I loved this movie! Indiana Jones/007/Harry Potter-like hero, Noah Wylie (charming and boyish) finding his destiny and a few fabulous treasures along the way. His 22 advanced degrees and adventurous spirit equip him to hold his own with another archaeologist, Gabrielle Anwar, whose 25 degrees make her a formidable barrier as he looks for clues to the whereabouts of Solomon's mine. Both characters are extremely strong and both run with scissors. Can they learn to play well together to achieve common goals and thwart some rather persistent villains who are out to control the world? This cat and mouse game is worth the viewing! When this movie comes out on DVD, I will own it!

A year after securing the job as librarian in the Metropolitan Public Library and now a bit more comfortable in his position, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) is asked by Library Director Judson (Bob Newhart) to find a stolen map showing the location of King Solomon's mines as well as the legend necessary to decipher the map. The legend is known to be located in the Volubilis ruins near Casablanca in Morocco, so Flynn flies there, only to invoke both the displeasure of Professor Emily Davenport (Gabrielle Anwar), the archeologist who is currently excavating the ruins, and the attention of a group of ruthless mercenaries headed by General Samir (Erick Avari), the head of the militia, who are also looking for the mines. Return to King Solomon's Mines is the second movie in the made-for-TV Librarian franchise, preceded by The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004) (2004) and followed by The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008) (2008). The screenplay for Return to King Solomon's Mines was written by screenwriter Marco Schnabel based on characters created by David N. Titcher in the first movie. Return to King Solomon's Mine can be watched as a stand-alone adventure movie, but Quest for the Spear does introduce Flynn Carsen character, explaining how he got the job as the Librarian, why his mom (Olympia Dukakis) keeps trying to hook him up with girls, how Flynn got to be so smart, and many other little things that make the second movie more understandable. When Charlene (Jane Curtin) asks Judson why he didn't tell Flynn before letting him fly off to Casablanca, Judson explains that it is a lesson Flynn should learn on his own. As his search for the map and the map's legend progresses, Flynn discovers that his father was a member of the Brotherhood of the Masons, charged with protecting Solomon's secrets from ever getting into the hands of others. The duty is passed down from father to son, as is the Masonic amulet that Flynn's father claims he bought at a flea market, so it's now Flynn's duty to keep the secrets hidden. Solomon [c.970 BC - 931 BC], also known in Hebrew as "Jedidiah" and in Arabic as "Sulayman", was the third king of Israel and the son of David. According to the Bible, they were ancestors of Jesus Christ. Solomon was credited with being wise, wealthy, and powerful. The Key of Solomon, also referred to in the movie as The Book of Solomon, is a 14th or 15th century magical grimoire written during the Italian Renaissance and incorrectly attributed to King Solomon, who lived over 1,500 years earlier. However, there does exist a Book of Wisdom attributed to King Solomon and accepted as a chapter in some versions of the Bible. The Song of Solomon forms another book of the Bible in which two lovers describe their feelings of sexual intimacy with each other. King Solomon's mine is a recent addition to the mythology as an 1885 fictional novel, King Solomon's Mines, by English adventure writer Sir H. Rider Haggard. Flynn having tossed the Book of Solomon into the pillar of fire, Uncle Jerry (Robert Foxworth) jumps in after it and is consumed. As flames and lava spread throughout the mine, Flynn, Emily, and Jomo (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) escape with their lives. Later, as Flynn is preparing to return to New York, he gives the amulet to Jomo and charges him with protecting King Solomon's secret. At the airport, Emily reveals to Flynn that she has decided to participate in another dig in Tunisia and won't be going with him but that she has faith that they will meet again. They share a final kiss, and Emily heads to her airplane. Flynn heads towards his plane and, in a scene reminiscent of the 1942 film classic Casablanca (1942), Flynn puts on his hat and says to himself, "Of all the gin joints in all the world, she had to walk into mine." In the final scene back in New York, Flynn returns to the Library where he hands over his receipts to Charlene and is told to itemize them next time. Flynn apologizes to Judson for destroying the book, but Judson reminds him that by destroying it and giving up the chance to see his father again, he sacrificed his need for the greater good, making him a "great librarian." In the final scene, Flynn asks Judson about his vision of him on the beach, and Judson replies, "I'm capable of a lot of things, but magically appearing in a vision on a beach flying a kite is not one of them," to which Flynn replies, "I didn't say anything about flying kites." The movies in The Librarian series are most often described as a blend of action, comedy, and satire, "cheesy", and movies that are a lot of fun to watch but don't take themselves seriously. Those who have seen The Librarian movies often compare them to the movies in the Indiana Jones franchise, i.e., Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) (1989), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) (2008). Also similar are the movies in (1) the National Treasure series (National Treasure (2004) (2004) and its sequel National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007) (2007)), (2) the Night at the Museum series (Night at the Museum (2006) (2006), Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009) (2009), and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014) (2016)), (3) the Romancing the Stone series (Romancing the Stone (1984) (1984) and its sequel The Jewel of the Nile (1985) (1985)), and (4) The Mummy series (The Mummy (1999) (1999), The Mummy Returns (2001) (2001), and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) (2008)), all of which provide the adventure, thrills, and "cheesiness" that are part of The Librarian movies. Although they are a bit more serious in tone, the Robert Langdon series (The Da Vinci Code (2006) (2006), Angels & Demons (2009) (2009) and Inferno (2016) (2016)) is also favorably compared. The Wizarding World movies (Harry Potter (2001-2011) and Fantastic Beasts (2016–)) as well as The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) (2010) may be of interest.
