In THE HUMAN RACE a group of 80 people are ripped out of their daily lives and all re-appear in an undisclosed location. These people are from all walks of life: young and old, athletic and disabled, white-collared and homeless. The rules to a race boom in their heads, in their own voice and language, laying out what will become a horrific race of terror: 'If you are lapped twice, you die. If you step off the path, you die. If you touch the grass, you will die. Race... or die.'
I'm basically a 42 year old kid, and I liked this movie. It's a premise a daydreaming sci-fi geek in junior high would come up with. That being said, it held my interest. I'm not sure what these negative reviewers were expecting with the "Battle Royale" reference in the promos, I wasn't expecting big budget high-brow film-making myself. The themes are tired, but they're in your face and it does a good job of not being predictable. Sure you mostly see where it's going, but you don't know the details until the end. Even then you don't know, but it's juvenile fantasy, pick up where it left off in your head! I was expecting the same kind of crap you see in 80's straight to video science fiction/horror/fantasy (which I wouldn't have minded, I like that stuff) but what I got was better.
The idea of this film drew me to it immediately. The trailer was gripping and I was excited to see a twist at the end.

However, I was disappointed by the ending of the film. Not giving anything away, I didn't feel that anything had been accomplished. It was completely implausible and the ending definitely let this film down. The sense of it being unfinished, wasn't exciting like some movies. On the other hand I sat there, frustrated, because I had just watched a movie for 2 hours, that had no sense of accomplishment.

Overall, this movie had the potential to be very good, however the ending was a let down. This is a laughably bad movie, but an amazing drinking game waiting to happen.
