It's 2013 and Peter Williams, an alcoholic and driven Professor of History at New York University, is obsessed with an old war story about the USS LIONFISH, a US Navy submarine that was mysteriously and suddenly chained, welded shut, sealed and locked to the pier in 1943. Peter, after becoming an embarrassment to the History Department, is forced to resign his position at BOSTON UNIVERSITY due to his drinking and his single minded obsession with the submarine story. That evening, Peter receives a mysterious visit from a man from the Department of the Navy. After years and years of trying, Peter is allowed to visit the submarine. Assembling his team of researchers and graduate students, including is ex-wife, Peter plans to finally perform research on board, and his team head to the USS LIONFISH... the first people to be allowed on the boat for over 80 years since... the event. Once on board, they become trapped by the boat itself and things only get worse for the team as the boat comes to life, and heads out to sea diving them into a pitched battle in 1943 with a German U-boat and attacked by their own US NAVY destroyer... Peter and his team are thrust into the untenable position of continuing to fight the LIONFISH, in order to save themselves, or changing sides, and fighting with the USS LIONFISH. With the fate of Peter, his crew, the USS LIONFISH, and the outcome of World War II hanging in the balance, Peter must make a decision that he never saw coming and could potentially... change the world forever.
In 1943, the Navy submarine USS Lionfish was inexplicably shut down; its commander, Tony Sterling, gone without a trace. Seventy years later, Sterling's grandson, professor Peter Williams, is recruited by a top-secret government agency to investigate. Aboard the Lionfish, Peter and his team uncover clues to the sub's cryptic past-and are plunged into a terrifying supernatural journey that will take them across the dark abyss of time, with history hanging in the balance.
Actually, the acting wasn't entirely as bad as many on here are portraying. The lead actor and the woman who played his wife actually did alright. The big problem with this movie - other than the glaring historical accuracies, like; why was it docked in a Boston harbour during WWII when they were fighting in the Pacific theatre against the Japanese? Why would the torpedoes still be armed? How could the batteries still be charged? etc., - the problem was the script. And I don't even mean the military aspects of it either. It was laughingly atrocious, full of cheesy lines, juvenile at best. It seemed to steal lines from every bad war movie ever made, like the line where the guards at the gate to the Naval base roll their eyes and say "civilians", or when they quote the 'there's only two kinds of ships" saying, that can be found on any submarine gift-shop t-shirt. If the script had been better, this movie may have had a chance to rise above it's almost unwatchable level.
This was a very tedious movie. I checked it out because it had a 5.8 out of 10 rating, with just 16 people voting. I figured even if it were a 4 out of 10, it'd be OK for my purposes.

Alas! After the first 30 minutes, it dove off a cliff in terms of entertainment value and acting charisma. I have seen fantastically better performances from high school drama teams. Frankly, the soundtrack was a 4 out of 10, and I enjoyed it a lot better when the people weren't talking. The dialog *really* sinks the movie with the sub.

I cannot recommend this movie, however, I hope at least the actors and actresses got a semi-decent paycheck for their part. At least that'd be something good to come out of this shipwreck (pun intended).
