Definitely still needs a bit more content. I've finished most of the game in its current state up to defeating all hostile/bad races (won't say which to avoid spoilers) and just dealing with the occasional straggler. There's a nice cache of resources once you "finish" the game which I felt was a nice touch by the developers. Still, I give this game an 8.5/10 personally. If more content and races are added, the score will go up appropriately.. A little barebones on content right now but it's a good start.. This game is a labor of love. There are bigger games and flashier games out there, but very few with this level of thought and effort put into every aspect- the atmosphere, the gameplay, the exploration, etc. It's worth every penny.. This is a really fun game.. This game is a lot of fun if you enjoy designing your own ship using modules and exploring different systems. There isn't much of a diplomacy system at the moment (that I've encountered at least) but you can trade with other species and there are enough side quests to keep you busy between main missions. The combat is fluid and allows for multiple play styles (I've come to enjoy hit-and-run when facing a stronger foe, while straight up blasting the weaker ones). The constant updates keep the game fresh and progressing forward at a great rate.. I've been searching for a 2D Space RPG for a long time. Nothing has scratched that itch as well as SPAZ 1 until this. The upgrade system is really good, but you have to WORK for the research points to unlock new stuff and the materials to build the components to use some of it. I think the icing on the cake is this game has a story, with mystery, and unique alien races that you can actually interact with. It has rudimentary trading, materials only, but what's there is much better then most space RPGs that try to shoe-horn the whole trader/mercenary/fighter/pirate/etc formula. The only thing lacking at this point is more content. Even with the hand-crafted nature of the universe, it does seem like the developer is delivering on new content at an acceptable rate.


Beta 0.10.x Branch : As I posted in the latest Weekly Update , Beta 0.10.x is available for players who want to try it out. For now, this is an "opt-in" Beta. Assuming no major problems, that version will become the default branch in a little over a week. To opt-in, you just need to right-click on the game in your library, choose properties and go to the Betas tab. There is no password. Click here to see detailed instructions.
