Another 'make your choice' game.. And your choice changes everything.. A very good game.. It's like reading a 'choice book' of my youth, but much more fun!..
I recommend this one.. Reminds me a lot of Stories: The Path of Destinies. Like on that game, you are trapped in a kind of Groundhog Day style time loop, where each time you die you come back to the start of the game, but with your items and some new knowledge from your previous life. The game has 24 endings, and in each one of them you die in the end. The goal of these endings is to find information. Once you find out all you need, then you can go back and do it properly, in a 25th, golden, ending.
The major difference between the games is on the gameplay. Whereas S:TPoD is a beat-em-up, this game is a Choose Your Own Adventure text based adventure, with some turn based combat thrown in. The gameplay basically consists of the game providing you some options, then you choose one and suffer the consequences. Some choices affect the story, and these are clearly marked, but most only result in you gaining resources and/or getting in a fight. The resources are used to craft weapons, ammo and consumables, which are used in order to not die in the fights. So, in essence, this is a resource management game. It is pretty casual, but also nice.
The story is less dramatic than S:TPoD, but also less frustrating. The endings I've gotten so far result in your death through no great fault of the protagonist, while the protagonist of S:TPoD is often too dumb to live, making bad decisions you have no control over.
The graphics in this game are very good as well. I like the cartoony, colorful style. The music is a little lackluster though. Also, the settings are not kept when I close and open up the game again, no idea why.
Overall I give this game a solid 7/10, which means I can recommend this game.. The long and short of my experience is that this game has the Oblivion problem.
I'm now stuck at the start of the game because I levelled up my tech tree to get more HP, but this made the enemies stronger as well. I can't progress to the later stages to get the blueprints for new items because you rely almost entirely on luck to not get stunned, or to avoid random bonus damage, or getting 3/4 DOTs stacked up (which is common).
The game otherwise seems well designed and interesting if a bit simple, but you should avoid unless they do some serious rebalancing to how the enemies scale.
EDIT: I did enjoy the game for the first 2-3 hours. Ironicly, it was much easier to progress when I was weaker.. Fun, relaxing game with a crafting system and combat system and story that were all deeper than expected. This is an interesting and fun game. You will get to make lots of choices as the game progresses; without spoilers, you will get a second chance at some choices. =) The dialogue is good, but was not translated into English very well. You will need to read between the lines. Crafting is decent, but gets repetitive. Numerous endings that you will strive to unlock.
Check out the new trailer!:
Evil Corporation Games has released a new trailer for Star Story: The Horizon Escape. It gives you the best feel of the complete game. ♥‿♥
Check it out at our game page or our Youtube channel
Since our early access release we made changes to the following:
We put great emphasis on the extension of the content in the game. We have revamped the world of Horizon, deepened character backgrounds and completely rewritten the story, while staying true to the original motives - now it's non-linear and have 24 (!!!!) alternative endings.
☼ Don't forget, only a few days left before the full version will be released and available to all players on Steam on September 5th. ☼
. Nearest game update. Work is in full swing!:
Hi everyone!
Four months have passed since we presented the Star Story: the Horizon Escape in early access.
The Evil Corporation Games’ team would like to thank all, who have expressed support for our project and especially those who have shared their opinion and comments.
Having carefully considered all proposals and wishes of the gamers as well as professional comments of our colleagues, we continued further developing and finishing up the game, and hope to full release early next month.
One of the major components of a good game is the storyline. To lift a veil a little, we can say that it has become much longer, comprising over 20 alternative finals. What concretely awaits the main character Van Klik at the end of his attempts to flee from the Planet Horizon depends exclusively on the individual choice of behavior in different situations offered by the game. Every next time you may play differently choosing new options to develop the plot.
The artists of the Evil Corporation Games have considerably widened the spaces of the Horizon by creating new locations and filling the backgrounds of the initial version of the game with many new details.
However, we would rather not to reveal our insights and groundworks all at once, but invite you to follow our news!
Yours respectfully,
EvilCoGames.
. Got news? We do!:
Hello, everyone!
We’ve got news! First: we’re alive. Second: everything is ready for the Early Access release! And last but not least: we’ve been working on some features we promised earlier.
At the moment we are building a Mac version of the game! I can’t say that this build will be available right after our release, but we’re doing everything we can to make the Mac version happen ASAP.
Building for Mac is pretty tricky or maybe there is just something wrong with us… -_- But I prefer to think that that there are other reasons.
In any case, we are on it. Mac users will definitely get their Star Story: The Horizon Escape digital copy!
We promised the artbook. We are working on it too! So far it is somewhat like this:
We are trying to fill it with our best content. And even add some pictures and concepts which we haven’t published anywhere (yep, we actually have these!)
Also… We’ve caught a few bugs...
Stay tuned!
. 20% OFF + DEMO:
We have 2 good news for smart players!
1) Halloween Steam sale is over, but we decided to extend the period of 20% discount!
2) Also, we have released a free demo version of the game Star Story: The Horizon Escape, so our friends have the opportunity to experience the game before buying a purchase version!
Best regards,
EvilCoGames Team. Update version 1.709.19 is available:
