Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized-the legendary Rex Racer - whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer, the designer of Speed's thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company's maniacal owner but uncovers a terrible secret-some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won't drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line. The only way for Speed to save his family's business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie, Speed teams with his one-time rival-the mysterious Racer X - to win the race that had taken his brother's life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.
The story begins with Speed Racer who is a young man with natural racing instincts whose goal is to win The Crucible, a cross-country car racing rally that took the life of his older brother, Rex Racer. Speed is loyal to the family business, run by his parents Pops and Mom. Pops designed Speed's car, the Mach 5. The owner of Royalton Industries makes Speed a lucrative offer, Speed rejects the offer, angering the owner. Speed also uncovers a secret that top corporate interests, including Royalton, are fixing races and cheating to gain profit. With the offer to Speed denied, Royalton wants to ensure that Speed will not win races. Speed finds support from his parents and his girlfriend Trixie and enters The Crucible in a partnership with his one-time rival, Racer X, seeking to rescue his family's business and the racing sport itself.
This is most terrible movie I seen in many years. I went to see this this movie in IMAX theater in Toronto, to see it best possible resolution and sound, such a waist of money and time. I have to say that I knew about this movie during it's post production, I was ready and waiting for it. Even visual effects were really bad, looks very cheap, just a bunch of cuts stitched together; it's like if TV show cuts, shots from home made music video, video game cuts and green screen footage shots were edited together by drunk dude. Totally underused Susan Sarandon, very confusing movie, super cheesy flick with lots of flashes, I even felt dizzy. Probably Wachowski got lazy after Matrix, they made this movie to get some fresh cash by advertising "from directors of Matrix", shame on you Wachowski. Although, 3 things were good, Christina Ricci always beautiful, 13 y/o Paulie Litt done really great acting, and car 3D models looks very good.

Rest of the movie is just a garbage, simply trash... I thought this was a great movie and want them to make a sequel. I especially like how Rex faked his own death and you don't find out until the end. I also think that Rex should have told at least his family about that. If you like movies that contain a lot of special effects and automobile racing to the extreme, this movie is for you. It was also a a lot more violent than expected. There is a lot of hate and explosions and some foul language. There is also some shooting and faked death. I would honestly say that this movie is for pre-teens and early teenagers. Half of the movie is set in the future but with retro hair and clothe styles. Please take your pre-teens/teenagers to see this movie. Do NOT go to this movie at imax with elderly persons. It gave a guy in my area a ceasure(if thats how you spell it)
Aimed squarely at family audiences, the Wachowski Brothers' return behind the camera for the first time since the "Matrix" trilogy is a blur of video action painting and very loud sounds notable solely for its technical wizardry. In every other respect, it's pure cotton candy -- entirely non-nutritious but too sweet and pretty for young people to resist.
No. A japanese comic did exist, but Speed Racer is based on the television show "Speed Racer", an English dubbed and edited version of the Japanese animated television show Mahha GoGoGo by Japanese anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida [1932-1977]. The songs used in the first trailer are...Dissolved by Michael Giacchino (Alias), Race Wars by BT (Fast and the Furious), and Iron Fisted Mutha by BT and Nick Phoenix (300 Years Later). The song used in the second international trailer is... Birthright by Celldweller. 'Go, Speed Racer, Go,' performed by Ali Dee & the Deekompressors. This version has the original 'Mach-A-Go-Go' Japanese opening, as well as sound snippets from the cartoon as it was dubbed in the US. There is a regular version of 'Go Speed Racer Go' that does start with the English lyrics to the theme song, and then segues into the Ali Dee song. Yes. Although this is made known often in the series, in the film, it's briefly debunked - as a way to deter those who might know the show. After Rex faked his death, he had cosmetic surgery to change his appearance. No, there are no extra scenes after the movie. The Mach 5 is a street-registered car built for rallies and other road races. The Mach 4 and Mach 6 (both versions) are T-180 track cars that have several key differences from street cars. They are single-seaters with rocket engines capable of speeds in excess of 400 MPH. Additionally, all wheels are capable of turning independently, allowing the car to maintain forward motion no matter which way it faces, as well as to "drift" and spin while retaining a great deal of control. Speed races the Mach 5 in the Casa Cristo 5000 because that race is a cross-country rally. The Grand Prix, however, is a track race. Speed's track car, the Mach 6, was destroyed in the crash at the Fuji Helexicon. Due to the highly compressed time frame -- possibly as little as a week -- in which the Fuji track race, the Casa Cristo and the Grand Prix occur, the Racer Motors team has not had time to rebuild the Mach 6. The difference is further explained in the Speed Racer: Supercharged featurette that comes with every version of the Speed Racer DVD. In a nutshell, any car that enters a WRL track race must have a T-180 wheelbase. The Mach 5 does not, but the Mach 6 does. Yes. The street-registered vehicle he drives during the Cruncher Block road attack and in the Casa Cristo cross-country race is a carryover from the anime and manga and is named the Shooting Star.
