Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced Singapore's new plans to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. This starts from the COVID-19 vaccination plan to access to COVID-19 test kits. It is hoped that with these plans, Singapore can avoid the rapid increase in the number of cases as experienced by its neighbors.

Here are five important points that Lee Hsien Loong made regarding Singapore's COVID-19 response plan:

1. Vaccination in the 12-18 Years Age Group
As of this Tuesday, Singapore will start rolling out vaccinations for the 12-18 year age group. The trigger, said Lee Hsien Loong, was the increasing number of COVID-19 cases among their students. He is worried that it will not be controlled if their vaccinations wait for injections in the adult age group to complete.

For the initial stage, the COVID-19 vaccination will prioritize those who graduate from levels O, N, and A, including students with special needs. After that, only then proceed to the general group.

2. COVID-19 test kits will be sold at pharmacies
Lee Hsien Loong stated that COVID-19 test kits will begin to be widely traded in pharmacies. The test kits sold are not the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test kits that have been used for swab tests, but a new type that is easier to use.

Lee Hsien Loong explained that he took this step so that residents can test themselves when they are worried that they have been infected or need confirmation before serving. The price of the test kit has not yet been disclosed.
3. More Routine COVID-19 Testing
Lee Hsien Loong said Singapore's health authorities would be conducting more routine tests for COVID-19, especially in seemingly normal environments. He is worried that there will be asymptomatic cases that go undetected along with the addition of new variants of COVID-19.

This policy, he said, is in line with the widespread sale of COVID-19 test kits. The hope is that with more tests, data regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus will become more accurate. If the data shows Singapore's situation has really improved, Lee Hsien Loong said large gatherings of citizens could be held again.
