Sharia
The Larabanga Mosque, located in 13th century Ghana, is one of the oldest mosques in West Africa.
The Shari'a of Islam (Arabic: َـرِيـعَ) affects the legal code in most Islamic countries extensively, but its effect varies widely. In Africa, most states restrict the use of Sharia law to "individual law" for issues such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and child custody. Secularism does not pose a serious threat in Africa, except in northern Nigeria in West Africa, although the new Islamic revival is having a major impact on Muslim-populated areas. Coexistence or coexistence between Muslims and non-Muslims is mostly peaceful.
