NEVER CONTROL YOUR PARTNER
While talking to Bhavana Bhatia about giving each other space, Sudha Murthy mentioned:

“We have allowed each other to have our own space. I love my work and my work makes me travel 18-20 days a month. There are so many days I am absent from the house. But he understands why I do what I do. Because I don’t control him, similarly he doesn’t control me.”

GIVE EACH OTHER SPACE
Sudha Murthy further continued:

“We are two different individuals, I am an extrovert; my husband is an introvert. Murthy wants to do deep thinking. I don’t do so much deep thinking. I love music, movies, students, talk, etc.; Because my areas of expertise are different. So, I let him have his space for his own pursuit of his passion.”

APPRECIATE EACH OTHER
Unlike many houses where couples lack love for one another, Narayan Murthy expresses his gratitude to his wife for taking on the greater burden of raising their children. He further said how grateful he is to Sudha Murthy in more detail:

“In everything we’ve done, my wife has always been the first to make adjustments. For example, when we got down and stated, “Either you start Infosys or I start Infosys,” we meant it. But, if you want me to start Infosys, you’ll be taking on a much bigger duty in life: raising our children.”

A BUSY COUPLE IS A HAPPY COUPLE
In response to a query regarding how to have a successful marriage, Narayan Murthy stated that it is critical for partners to stay occupied in any happy partnership. He said while emphasizing the need of being busy:

“A very healthy mechanism to maintain harmony in any relationship is for both the partners to be very busy. That’s very important. Otherwise, what happens is that one of the two partners will get upset over a period of time. What is this, this fellow isn’t looking after my needs at all; or what is this my wife isn’t looking after my needs, etc. So, for a certain number of years, keep yourself completely occupied.”

BE POSITIVE
Narayan Murthy goes on to say how important it is for both individuals to have a good outlook in order to have a successful marriage:

“Both individuals must have a positive attitude. Because when I go home from work and have had a particularly rough day, I need my wife to have a positive attitude, support me, say nice things, cheer me up, and so on.

Similarly, if the children caused her a lot of grief during the day and I returned in the evening, I should be the one who compliments her and supports her. I must say, we were quite fortunate that she and I both had such a cheerful attitude.”
