MOMAS

Located in the heart of Kita Urawa Park the MOMAS Museum of Modern Art and its beautiful architecture was designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa. Its use of open spaces, windows and the light grey colour of the building help create a sense of oneness with the surrounding park and nature. It is pram and wheelchair friendly too and the large automatic doors make it easy for everyone to enter and exit.

The Museum of Modern Art is a visual arts centre that features collections from across the world. Its holdings include works by Monet, Matisse, Picasso and other contemporary masters. In addition, the Museum has a significant collection of contemporary American artists such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko.

The exhibitions at MOMAS change four times a year meaning there is always something new to see. On my visit I was enthralled by the Japanese artist Seiju Omoda’s poetic paintings. His works are displayed on different fabrics hung from the ceiling in a spacious gallery area with a relaxing atmosphere. Visiting the Museum of Modern Art is well worth it especially as it’s admission free. An extra entrance fee is required if you wish to see the special exhibitions which are held five times a year.
