Iris is given Barry's speed when the team fights a bus meta who has the ability to swap people's DNA.
Team Flash confronts a new bus meta, Matthew. Otherwise known as Melting Point, the meta has the ability to swap people's DNA. During a battle with the team, Matthew transfers Barry's super speed to Iris, giving her the powers of the Flash. Hence, when a new threat is unleashed on Central City, Barry must act as the team leader, while Iris takes over as a speedster in order to defeat their new foe.
Candice Patton and Grant Gustin delivered amazing performances in this weeks episode! The storyline was really fun and allowed for some great development of their characters individually and in their relationship. The role-reversal meant Iris got the chance to have some fun with powers and be able to see what its like for Barry every time he goes out in the field, and Barry got to experience what it was like to be waiting behind the scenes. It developed a deeper understanding between two and brought about realization for Iris on where her true passions lie, giving us the ending scene where she dives back into her Flash blog. It was the perfect moment to start seeing Iris get back some of that passion she had lost while Barry was gone and Im looking forward to seeing her explore this further.
This episode was incredible! We FINALLY got to hear a POV from Iris about what she's been struggling with since the Savitar storyline and Barry's disappearance, how she shut down and lost her passion for journalism. I'm glad that passion was reignited tonight and she decided to start writing again! And seeing Iris finally get to suit up was incredible to watch and so inspiring for so many girls out there, especially those of color! A much needed episode. Those leaving such negative and hateful comments refuse to accept that Iris is the leading lady, this is the first episode she got centered on herself while less important characters have gotten plenty. Also, Iris in a super suit is canon in the comics. Despite what the bitter, hateful fans say, this episode was another season high without a doubt. The critics so far and various sites seem to agree.
