HELIUM ESCAPE VALVE
The Oyster case of the Rolex Deepsea is equipped with a helium valve. This safety valve, patented by Rolex in 1967, acts as a miniature decompression chamber for the watch and is essential for Deep-Sea Diving. During the decompression phases that professional divers undergo in hyperbaric rooms, the helium valve automatically regulates the overpressure contained in the watch case without compromising the water-resistance of the imitation watches.
CERACHROM BEZEL INSERT
The unidirectional rotating bezel of the Rolex Deepsea features a 60-minute black Cerachrom insert that allows divers to safely track their time underwater and stop their decompression. The insert, made of tough and corrosion-resistant ceramic, is virtually scratch resistant and the color never fades. The numerals and graduations are engraved in the ceramic and plated with platinum using a Rolex patented PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) process for optimal legibility and durability. The serrated edge of the ring provides excellent grip when setting the dive time, even with diving gloves.
CHROMA LIGHT DISPLAY
Much attention has been paid to the legibility of this professional diver's watch. The Chromalight hour markers and hands are filled with a luminous material that gives off a long-lasting blue glow - that lasts up to twice as long as traditional materials. On the ring, the zero marks of the scale, in the form of a triangle, are visible in the dark thanks to a capsule with the same luminous material.
SECURITY LOCKING AND EXTENSION SYSTEM
The Oyster bracelet of the Rolex Deepsea is equipped with an Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening, and with a double extension system that allows the watch to be worn comfortably over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick. The Fliplock extension link extends the bracelet by 26mm, while the Rolex Glidelock system allows slight adjustments of the bracelet length in 2mm increments for a total of approximately 20mm.
