Rocket League is a fast-paced action game that demands to be played at 60 fps

The hoary old chestnut that gameplay trumps eye candy is true within limits. The Switch port of Rocket League drives right up to the limit’s edge. Whether or not it crosses the line comes down to personal preference.Porting Rocket League to the Switch was a challenge because the game is built on the Unreal Engine 3 which is not supported on Nintendo’s console. Fortunately, the port was carried out by Panic Button which handled the Rocket League ports to Rocket League Items the PS4 and the Xbox One along with the Doom port to the Switch.Digital Foundry carried out a technical analysis of Panic Button’s work on Rocket League. Here’s what they found.

Rocket League is a fast-paced action game that demands to be played at 60 fps. (If some technical terms are unfamiliar, check out this guide.) Panic Button agreed, and went all out for performance. With minor exceptions, the game plays at 60 fps in both docked and undocked modes. The exceptions come in the form of one or two fps drops for brief moments when crashes and goals fill the screen with explosions and flying car parts. Frame pacing also remains mostly constant with only occasional brief hitches. The result is smooth, fluid gameplay in both docked and handheld modes when you’re playing in full-screen.
