Resonance of Fate is a role-playing game that takes place in the future when the Earth becomes too poisonous to live on and humanity moves to the machine-city of Basel. It is a city built high up to the sky upon a tower-like structure. The story of the game focuses on Vashyron, who is the leader of the PMF (Private Military Firm), as well as two other characters named Zephyr and Leanne, who join Vashyon's group and take on missions from the citizens of Basel.
This game looked interesting when I saw a trailer for it on amazon. I bought it and I have to say it was one very interesting and different role playing game. I also have to say that it was the best role playing game I played this year and that includes Final Fantasy XIII which I also found to be a very enjoyable game. I thought the fighting in this one trumped that one and the fact this one had so many strange and unique qualities. I only give it a nine though because it also ran to long and the story was a bit confusing. I mean it was different and interesting, but after I won the game I had a lot of questions and there were many that were left unanswered. The story has a gun for hire named Vashyron and his two young assistants, as it were, Leanne and Zephyr. You see how he met Zephyr during a scene before you even start the game and Leanne is introduced after you start playing the game. They do odd jobs here and there for people and the ones that are usually the most important are given to you by this people who are cardinals who live in Chandelier. You see in this world you live on this strange clock like tower that is very immense. When I first read about this game I thought it was going to be kind of on the short side, but this is most certainly not the case. This place is very expansive. The fighting is different in this one too. It features guns, which is not unique, but the way it plays out is. It is a combination of turn and real time and you use a machine gunner to inflict something called scratch damage which is not fatal to the enemy and pistols that inflict direct damage which is. It is a bit hard to get a handle on it at first and I found myself killed by rather wimpy characters at first as you have to watch this one gauge and the characters hit points. You also have the ability to dress your characters which is fun as I liked making them more to my liking. All in all a fun game, it just ran to long and you never really find out things like what was with the incident with Zephyr and how did he and Leanne survive their free fall. However, with the confusing stuff there was also good with the story as the world was never really in danger for a change as usually something wants to destroy the world in games like these. There are really no bad guys either as there are the finishing fights, but they are not with people with dark schemes. Like I said very good, just a bit of work here and there on that story and shorter running time would have helped.
