Reasons for Using PVC for Brick Moulding

PVC or Polyvinyl Chloride is one of the most commonly used plastics throughout the world. It is used in various forms such as in roofing, flooring, window frames, pipes, cables etc. Nowadays, the use of PVC brick moulding has become quite popular in South Africa.

What is PVC?

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a type of plastic that has high-resistance against biological and chemical damage. As an extremely practical material, it is very easy to mould into various shapes. Items which are light can be made of PVC and can be quite a durable and cost-effective solution. It is affordable due to its unique properties, PVC is reasonably priced because of its durability and longevity. It is largely used in making household items like furniture, clothing, cables, vinyl records, food, medical and cleaning solution containers etc. Now it is hugely used for making plastic moulded bricks.

PVC brick moulding:

PVC brick moulds are a durable PVC compound. It is not harmed by insects, moisture, mould and mildew. The brick is moulded in a way so that it can resist the harsh UV exposure as well as all types of weather conditions.

There are many reasons to use PVC as the material of brick moulding, such as:

  • Durability: PVC is a strong material that has high resistance against corrosion, chemical rotting, shock, adverse weather and abrasion. That is why it is a perfect material for moulded bricks that can be used outdoors too. The exterior of a house must go through extreme weather conditions, as well as withstand the heat of the sun and rain, so the bricks must be durable enough. Only then will they be able to trim the exterior door and window frame properly which will last for many years.
  • Fire resistance: Due to PVC’s fire-safety characteristics, the bricks are difficult to ignite and even if they burn, they have self-extinguishing capabilities once the ignition source is withdrawn. Moreover, PVC emit smelly acids when burnt, this smell can alert people before the fire breaks out.
  • Safety: PVC does not contain any toxins. Researchers have thoroughly tested this plastic and certified it as one of the safest plastics. PVC meets all international standards regarding health and safety.
  • Lightweight and strength: Using PVC in brick moulding is a great option because it is a light-weight material. So, you can carry and transport it easily from one place to another. Its mechanical strength, toughness, light-weight and abrasion-resistance make it a preferable material for brick moulding.
  • Cost-effective: The physical and technical properties of PVC provide excellent cost-effectiveness. PVC moulded bricks are durable and sustainable. This also means that there is no need to spend money on maintenance, which means cost-saving as well.
Due to all the benefits it provides, PVC brick moulds are quite popular in South Africa.
