Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a powerful tool that, based on concepts of science and computing, has been subtly but forcefully incorporated into different fields of knowledge.

Product and UX design need to enter the AI field and thus gradually adapt to the new possibilities that it allows.
To achieve this, it has been necessary to return to the very essence of design: the user, and in this way always remember that the true purpose of each creation is to improve the human experience. The objective of this text is to investigate the possible relationships that may exist between UX Design and AI (artificial intelligence).

The creation of an experience based on AI is based on two elements: the user and the AI model. The integration of these components must take place in an interaction environment capable of efficiently connecting people with technology. That is, the environment must be adapted through design, so that the user can interact with the AI solution in an effective and friendly manner. As IBM proposes, in a design focused on AI, this interaction is achieved through the construction of a human-machine relationship, which is based mainly on trust and reciprocity.

Artificial Intelligence refers to self-learning systems that, through data collection, have the ability to add human cognitive capabilities to machines. These systems have four characteristics: they understand, they reason, they learn and they interact.

Understanding refers to the ability to understand data, which can be from text tables to images and audio. Reasoning corresponds to the ability of a model to formulate hypotheses and to give arguments based on the understanding of the data. Lastly, learning and interaction are related to training, that is, to the possibility of refining the system through the multiple interactions it maintains with the user and thus making them more precise. All these are useful when it comes to product and UX design.

It is clear that ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE models have the ability to interact with the user and provide valuable results from data. However, it must be taken into account that each of the AI solutions must be thought out and designed to serve the user: AI is not about data, it is about ideas. Data is the fuel for the car, insights are the destinations. This is what matters to people. That is, its true purpose is to amplify human capabilities, which translates into the concept of Amplified Intelligence.

The other important element, the user, is the digital representation of the person who will use the system on a regular basis. In this regard, the motivations, expectations and needs of the subject are important, which are extracted through a research process based on direct observation.

This knowledge will help identify intervention opportunities, which in turn shape the goal of the final solution. Likewise, it will facilitate subsequent decision-making, such as the question of whether to use AI to automate or enhance an activity or process.
