Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Japan and Australia on 23 September. Other leaders, like Prime Minister Modi, are expected to hold bilateral meetings with all three partners in the Quartet before meeting for a general summit. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has already left for the United States to take part in a meeting of the UN General Session and prepare the basis for the summit of the four countries. A meeting of the foreign ministers of the four countries is not scheduled.

While Prime Minister Modi will deepen bilateral cooperation on political, economic, security and defense issues with all three leaders of the democratic world, the Quartet summit will discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

Quad leaders are expected to deliver a statement on the Indo-Pacific region with a focus on the rule of law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
