Act as Antioxidants
Studies have shown that people with PCOS are more likely to experience oxidative stress than those without it. Antioxidants neutralize harmful free radicals caused by oxidative stress. Studies showed that participants who drank 300ml (2 g of tea solids with 300 ml water), green tea or black coffee had higher antioxidant activity.
PCOS to Wellness Tea, Green tea had 1.5 times more antioxidant activity than black tea.
Increase insulin activity
Most people with PCOS are affected by insulin resistance. This meta-analysis based on 17 randomised controlled trials shows that tea reduced fasting blood sugar and HbA1cas as well as insulin. Another Study also found that green tea reduced insulin levels.
GUT HEALTH
In PCOS, there is a tendency to have an altered gut microbiome. Some studies suggest that the gut microbiome could be a factor in the development of PCOS. Although we don't yet know the ideal microbiome, we do know that a healthy diet plays a significant role in maintaining it. Drinking tea may help. Both black and green teas are high in polyphenols. Research has shown that polyphenols can promote growth of good bacteria while decreasing the growth of bad bacteria.
