The agency works with its own standard that was developed with the objective of having a consistent standard that is useful for objectively measuring the quality of the translation of the service information, regardless of the source language, regardless of the target language, regardless of how the translation is performed, that is, human translation or machine translation.

The method is based on a point-based system. The fewer points a translation gets, the higher the quality of the translation.
The errors are divided into 7 categories and each category is described comprehensively: incorrect term, incorrect meaning, omission, structural error, spelling error, punctuation error and miscellaneous error.

Each category is weighted. Some error categories are considered to affect the final quality more than others. For example, a spelling error can get fewer points than errors found in the wrong term category.

Once an error is identified as belonging to a category, the human reviewer decides whether the error is serious or minor. A serious error is weighted to obtain more points than a minor error.

The metric is easy to follow and implement. It is an excellent step to create an objective measurement of linguistic quality. In addition, it is highly customizable: if an editor believes that in a particular application a spelling error may be more damaging to a translated version than the use of an incorrect term, it can easily change the weighting.

Finally, the results of the metrics can be used to compare linguistic standards and serve as a basis for discussion with clients or translation groups.
