Our Latest Apple Comparison For iPhone XS vs XS Max vs iPhone XR

There are subtle differences between iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, at least at first glance. But as we review each item and make in-depth comparisons, we understand how they are truly unique in their own way.

This is the first time Apple has released three new iPhones at the same time, providing us with three powerful flagship phones that vary in size, camera quality, specs and price. But which one is right for you?

The iPhone XS is the flagship phone in technology and the smallest. Of course, the iPhone XS Max is the bigger brother with the biggest screen. The iPhone XR is a more streamlined, lower-cost "budget flagship" with a size between the other two.

But this has simplified three mobile phones - each phone has its advantages and disadvantages. If you are looking for one of the latest and best iPhones, please continue reading the details of these top smartphones to find the right iPhone.

XR Design

Overall, Apple's house hasn't changed much since the iPhone X was released until the end of 2017 - it's not a bad thing. All three models follow the same broad design: the front and rear glass sandwiches the aluminum frame, the fillet and the healthy notch cut from the top front display.

The biggest difference between the three phones is the size.
The iPhone XS (143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm) is the smallest with a 5.8-inch screen - this phone is perfect for small hands or users who prefer to use one-handed devices. It weighs the lightest, 177 grams, although it is impressive, it is still not as light as some Android phones.

This is an objective and fascinating mobile phone with stylish glass and minimal bezel. Its two rear cameras are vertically arranged at the top left of the back of the phone. You can get it in silver, space gray or always popular gold.

The iPhone XS Max (157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 mm) is just a larger version, and the 6.5-inch display offers more screen space. It's the same in other respects, and your choice comes down to aesthetics: Do you want a bigger phone? Do you mind using it with both hands?

Finally, the iPhone XR (150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm) looks similar, but there are some simple nods in design: it has a rear lens instead of a metallic hue, with bright primary colors, white and black. It is also thicker than the other two (.6mm). Its 6.1-inch screen is located just between the other two phones. If the XS is too small and the XS Max is too large, it will provide users with the right choice.

Another point to note is that although Apple still does not allow dual SIM card trays in mobile phones (except for China) and scalable storage, all three phones will be affected - eSIM. As described on Apple's support page, you can use an eSIM-enabled wireless carrier to register an internal SIM card for a separate number.

iPhone XS Vs iPhone XS Max Vs iPhone XR Monitor

Both the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max have the same 19.5:9 ratio OLED screen, and it is foreseeable that the resolution matches its size. The XS's 5.8-inch display manages 1125 x 2436 pixels (approximately 458 pixels per inch), while the larger XS Max display reaches 1242 x 2688 pixels (again, ~458 ppi). In other words, almost the same bright, lively screen.

The iPhone XR's display is another compromise Apple has made to save money, even though it's not a bad screen. The phone uses a 6.1-inch "IPS" LCD instead of an OLED, which has the same 19.5:9 ratio but a lower resolution of 828 x 1792 pixels (~326 ppi). In comparison, the screen is not as clear as XS and XS Max.

Specifications And iOS 12

The good news: If you buy any of these phones, you will be able to fully (or almost completely) use the latest version of iOS in the next few years. The only feature that iPhone XR can't use is the ability to require depth sensing because there is only one camera in front of and behind.

All three run the latest version of iOS 12. When iOS 13 is released to the public later this year, all three flagship products can be easily run: Apple reliably supports mobile phones for 4-5 years after launch.

Given that these phones belong to the same generation of mobile phones, they all come with A12 Bionic chips - the fastest product ever made by Apple. Again, their performance is quite comparable, but compared to the 4GB of XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR's 3GB of memory may be slightly slower.

Camera And Battery

This is where the difference really comes into play.

Both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are equipped with dual 12MP cameras: an f/1.8 wide-angle lens, a f/2.4 telephoto, and a 2x optical zoom. These can take photos with deep effects, including the very popular portrait mode.

Strictly speaking, these lenses are not as powerful as some competing Android phones, but it doesn't matter if you take a casual photo: Apple has improved its photo software to produce great images in most lighting, and most importantly It is easy to use. The iPhone XR also got this software - but its single post-f/1.8 wide-angle lens (which looks almost unchanged from the single shooting game on the iPhone 8) means that the depth effect is not so good. Don't worry, you can still take portrait photos - the software just has to do some heavy work to make up for it.

Similarly, the iPhone XR lacks a time-of-flight sensor in its screen gap, which means your portrait self-portrait will not be of high quality.

On the other hand, the iPhone XR contains a 2,942mAh battery, which is almost as large as the 3,174mAh battery in the iPhone XS Max. Unless you are streaming for hours or using a large number of location services, these services should last a full day (and the next full charge).

The iPhone XS is not awkward here, its battery is 2,658mAh, but still much smaller. All three phones use Apple's standard 15W fast charging, which is 50% charging in 30 minutes. There is wireless charging.

Review Summary

As more and more people feel the sting of soaring phone prices, it is easy to recommend the more affordable iPhone XR and call it a day. After all, it does include most of the best parts of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, and the price is very high.

But other phones do get the quality of the flagship product, and there are some great hardware that can take them to the next level. They took higher quality photos, in short, they looked more shiny and chrome-plated.

In the end, the choice is yours: Which iPhone is best for you? No - or no features (and aesthetics) that you can live with?
