The Mumbai Indians continue to prove yet again that they are unbeatable. Or rather, they are as close as one can get to being an unbeatable side in a competition like this, having lost two of their nine games so far.

Yesterday, in their game against the Pune Warriors, it was the one over from Pune's best bowler in the competition, Alfonso Thomas, that turned things around for the Mumbai Indians. On a pitch that should have been more conducive to batting, the side were 125/5 in 18 overs. There was a good chance that the Mumbai Indians could have been restricted to a manageable 140-145 score and the Pune Warriors could have got their campaign back on track.

Unfortunately, the problem that many of the Mumbai Indians opponents have had is with the way they have come back from situations that have not been the best for them. It was the 19th over in this case that changed things around for the side, what with the pair of Kieron Pollard and Harbhajan Singh getting 28 runs in that over. That was the end of the game for the opposition. Mumbai Indians scored 161 and ended up winning by more than 20.

Pune, of course, made an error in batting the way they did in the middle of the innings. With the asking rate increasing to more than 10, one would have thought that the side would have sent Yuvraj Singh to bat. Instead, it was Abhishek Jhunjhunwala who pottered around for some deliveries, scored nothing on his IPL debut this year and by the time Yuvraj came on to the crease, the game was all but decided. With this loss, the Warriors have gone out of the tournament with just two wins from their nine games while Mumbai Indians have won seven from their nine.

There is one factor that the Mumbai Indians fans need to worry about. Far too often, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Ambati Rayadu have been allowed in a partnership for the second wicket which has laid down a foundation but has come at just over a run a ball. This has invariably meant that the side has got to scores of anywhere between 60-65 in the first ten overs before exploding in their last ten - more so in the last five.

However, this cannot happen all the time. Sides like Pune and Punjab are relatively weak, with bowling attacks that can be put under pressure. Against sides which have strong attacks and those who would now read through what the Mumbai Indians are up to, this may not work and in games which could be knock-out matches, this will almost invariably end the chances of the side. What the Mumbai Indians could do is one of the two things - have the batsmen surprising the opponents by shuffling the batting order some time or have Tendulkar and Rayadu play much more aggressively. Tendulkar needs to take the onus on to himself to get the runs.
